  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I don't need a calendar to tell me that summer is here. One quick look at the grass in my lawn is all it takes. The drought, high heat and humidity have already taken their toll causing the grass to turn brown and go dormant.

Like most people, my first instinct is to water the grass every day in order to make it green again. However, lawn care experts warn against frequent watering, even in times of drought. Frequent watering causes the grass to develop a short root system. Since the water on the surface of the soil quickly evaporates, the grass becomes less and less drought-resistant, weak and more prone to damage.

Instead, it is recommend that you water lawns heavily once a week rather than watering a little each day. This trains the roots of the grass to grow deeper in search of water. A deep root system makes for a healthier, stronger lawn all year long. It also makes the grass more easily able to survive periods of drought when they occur.

In my life it seems that there are frequent "droughts" which come along in the form of disappointments and struggles. And just like my lawn, when these "droughts" come I want immediate, frequent relief!

But you and I know that it seldom works that way...

Ever wonder why we have troubles at all? I think it is because without them we might lose site of what is really important. Might become too comfortable and begin putting our trust in things. Might forget Who is really in control. Might forget how lost we really are and wither under the hopelessness of our situation...

So just like our lawn, when in the midst of life's "droughts" we are being trained to sink our spiritual roots deep into the One true source of life - the living waters of Jesus Christ! Over time, even when in the dry times of life, we learn that we can not only survive - but thrive - through the strength of Jesus Christ. Jesus said, "...whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life." (John 4:14 - NIV)

How about you?

Are you in the midst of a dry spell? We have this promise from Jesus found in John 16:33: "In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." (NIV)

Dear Lord Jesus, we don't want to just survive through life's rough spots, but to thrive through them. Help us each to put our hope, our trust and our "spiritual roots" in You so that we can live our lives with the confidence that "I can do all things through Christ because he gives me strength." (Philippians 4:13 - ICB)

"Let's learn about the Lord. Let's try hard to know who he is. He will come to us as surely as the dawn comes. The Lord will come to us like the rain, like the spring rain that waters the ground." (Hosea 6:3 - ICB)

Amen.
