I have a bro-in-law and a sis-in-law that are JW. They both came to my wedding (15 yrs ago) which was held in a methodist church. I don't know if they got 'approval' or not. Also, they came to their grandmother's and mother's funeral which also was held in a methodist church. forgot which number it was. I'll look for it.

It was rule 95 and 96.

Hehe, a man from our church said he was visited by a JW one day, but before the JW could speak the man said, "there's no need to talk to me, I don't want to take your place in heaven."

45. You cannot have friends who are not Jehovah's Witnesses

Hmm, I asked a girl out once and she said she couldn't date me cause I wasn't a JW. I thought it was a lame turn down, but perhaps she was telling the truth. (At least that's better for my ego  ).

I missed that one... but sheesh... they just want to keep their members down don't they?

Some of these are so strange I have to wonder if they are true statements. Perhaps Bro. James (son of thunder) can let us know if these are actual JW truths. (Thank God for Bro. James as well! He has been a blessing to me and I've learned a lot from him on CF...*end random side thought*)

100. You can never question what is printed in Watchtower literature

Yeah, if I wanted to start a cult, then I would make a rule you couldn't question my laws either. Big duh on that rule.

23. You cannot buy girl Scout cookies

That right there prevents me from the JW's form of resurrection.:)

I don't understand how they can support any of this, and claim the Bible in any way!! I'll have to check out the link, I guess. What a bunch of HOOEY!

I don't think they validly could.. As I went back over the list I realized the "*" means that its a discontinued practice. So now they can validly play chess again.

Amazing....I can't believe some of the things that the JW's have to follow. I just recently accepted the Lord and thank God everyday for my salvation. Most importantly after reading that website about JW's I am thankful that I never had a JW show up on my door step. YIKES!!!!

God Bless!

I don't know where you got all this from, I know many that have gone to Uni as I do.

We are encouraged to donate our time (much like the Mormons) in ministry working at Bethel. This is a great honor to serve our Great God. Then take on formal studies. If you don't feel the call to go to Bethel you go to uni or college like everyone else and learn a trade.

I am a former Jehovahs Witness. That is a web site and as such is not 100% correct. My family are devoted God loving people treading what they believe is a very narrow path. Some teachings may be false, but a lot are plain common sense of not accepting things of this world and walking in the Spirit with a pure/clean heart and mind.

please be careful when you post that you don't offend people and bash other religions. Do it in love, not in hate.

Hey Bro. James,

We mean no disrespect here. There are many of these that deal with what seem to be 'community standards' sort of like baptists and alcohol. It's not a sin to have a beer although most baptist's prefer to abstain.

:) We appreciate your insight. Above you said "Some teachings may be false, but a lot are plain common sense of not accepting things of this world...," I am curious if you can tell me if the following are true beliefs:

60. You cannot read any anti-Jehovah's Witness material

83. The Lord's supper is only to be eaten by select Jehovah's Witnesses (144,000 group-99.99% of Jehovah's Witnesses are forbidden from taking the Lord's supper)

84. The Lord's supper can only be offered once per year

and:

23. You cannot buy girl Scout cookies

(I am especially curious about this one because I love GS cookies! :yum:)

Peace to you,
Bro. Mark

I think this strikes to the heart of my personal concern about discussing religious teachings with which we disagree; it is easy for it to turn into gossip and false witness.

I promise you that I believe at least one false thing about God. I dunno what it is. But I'm not infallible! But I think I can follow Christ anyway.

I know many people who are members of groups with unorthodox theology, but whom I believe to be sincere followers of Christ. Many people on this board who believe my theology to be in error nonetheless accept me as a fellow Christian... And I find that this makes my faith stronger, and makes it easier for me to consider their positions as well.
