AAP and WHO reccomend breastmilk or formula till 12 mos. (though some old fashioned doctors say differently. My SIL ped told her to put her baby on 2% milk at 9 mos..and she listened..no whole milk nor breastmilk nor formula..just 2% milk..and at his one year appt he was UNDERweight...hmm..shocking isnt it?)

Cow's milk should not be introduced to a baby untill 6 months. At that point milk and milk products are fine (* unless there is s history of dairy issues in the family)HOWEVER they should not replace formula or breastmillk untill 12 months. (possibly even later for a small baby{calories} or a baby who is not yet eating very well rounded meals{nutrient's}) Also , the earlier you introduce milk or milk products the more likely a child is to develop sensitivities to it. ( Later in life - justbecaue they don't reac to it NOW doesn't mean there won't be issues years down the road)
So , in short - no. Milk should not replace breast milk at ten months. Your baby can be drinking milk , but only as they would drink water or juice; as an addition to their formula or breast milk.

Formula, you could also do Stage 2 formula which is okay after 9 months I think (read the can)
Yeah, 9-24 months. I had Justin on whole milk but decided against it and decided to do stage 2 formula. He does better with it than regular milk, plus he gets all the nutrients he needs.

He is still nursing- but I went out of town a few days and my milk supply is low. I am nursing all day to re-establish--but he likes having a bottle (which I never would've imagined!)I nurse before and after....he doesn't seem to be having any issues from milk at all (it's maybe like twice a day...)--should I see if he'll dink formula instead??
I would. My ped told me that 90% of what the baby eats until 12 mos should be breastmilk or formula.

From the evidence I've seen with many that are within the Celiac groups in the Southern US, and other gastro-intestinal issues..

Most folks transition to either pastuerized but not homogenized whole milk (Goat or cow)... OR remain with breast milk until the first year is over.

I can only drink whole unhomogenized cow's milk, and it has more nutrients in it than if it were homogenized (which changes the structure of the milk itself and how your intestines and stomach perceive it and break it down). I can make icecream with this milk because it has cream on top.

I've been talking with my OB, and since this is what we are using, he's preferred we just use folic acid and magnesium since my diet is really rather high in fiber and vitamins (veggies and fruits)... so he wants me to remain the same post delivery while breastfeeding. (Whether we use a bottle or direct-feed)

I would give formula over milk, a can of the powder will last a month.... I think Good Start brand or Parent's Choice would be good options-- unless you think you can get your supply up pretty fast. But in your case I would probably give water honestly (or nothing, while he still likes to nurse) so that he wouldn't get full enough not to nurse enough iykwim

okay so yesterday he had no solids and 1 small bottle of milk during the day.....freakin' slept from 6:00p- 3:00a-nursed and cried for about 30minutes-I got up and gave him a bottle of milk --ad he slept from about 3:45a to 7:15a.

LOL! it's the best he's slept in forever....

Now that my milk is fairly re-established, I think I'm gonna try to really limit soldis for a day or two- to really boost my supply. I didn't want to before-cause he was hungry :)

My son is breastfed and at 10 months I was giving 3 meals of solids a day offering the breast after he ate his meals and in between. If he wanted a drink he got water in a sippy. I had a supply issue at that time but for 1-2 bottles a day, I offered more solids and spaced out my day time nursing more and offered solids in between.

Now at 13.5 months I introduced a sippy of either cow's milk with his meals sometimes but most of the times he gets just water.

Sleeping well doesn't mean the cow's milk is the best for him.

I'd get him on an eating schedule(not cut in stone but rough times.), nursing around the same times, solids in between. If he doesn't take them, then let him nurse....before I'd introduce large amounts of formula or cow's milk to a child who hasn't had it yet.

I asked my mom about that and she said I was on whole milk at around 10 months to a year. After I got on whole milk, I wouldn't drink formula because I didn't like it. I would only drink formula if it was mixed with whole milk. She was on a mix of formula and breast milk up until then.

And I did prefer bottle over breast.

That's what I did yesterday- put a couple scops of formula in with milk. He seems totally fine--no gas, no bad diapers or rash or cheeks flush no dry skin or anything.

I know about nursing, etc. and all that--but I am on kid 5 with it all, and I can't say that I am totally depressed that he seems to like a couple bottles a day. :sorry:

He slept fantastic again last night. I pulled him into bed at some point and I am sure I nursed him- but I don't remember. That means he slept like 12hours with only one waking. This is a vast improvement from the non-sleep I've been getting up to this point.

Boy do I know you know about nursing.... I hope I didn't come across like that. I was just wondering. Sleep is important to my well being too. If the bottles are working for you you can keep them.
