1 Timothy 5:24-25 says:
"Some men's sins are open beforehand, going before to judgment; and some men they follow after. Likewise also the good works of some are manifest beforehand; and they that are otherwise cannot be hid." (KJV)
"Some men's sins are open beforehand, going before to judgment; and some men they follow after. Likewise also the good works of some are manifest beforehand; and they that are otherwise cannot be hid." (KJV)
Meaning:
Verse 24: "Some men's sins are open beforehand, going before to judgment; and some men they follow after."
- "Open beforehand, going before to judgment": Some people's sins are evident and obvious, even before a formal judgment or evaluation. Their actions are clear for all to see, making their accountability straightforward.
- "They follow after": For others, their sins are hidden and only become apparent later, whether in this life or at the final judgment before God.
Verse 25: "Likewise also the good works of some are manifest beforehand; and they that are otherwise cannot be hid."
- "The good works of some are manifest beforehand": Just as some sins are obvious, so are the good deeds of certain individuals. Their righteousness and good character are evident to all.
- "They that are otherwise cannot be hid": Even if good works are not immediately visible, they will eventually come to light. True goodness cannot remain hidden forever.
Application:
- Judgment and Discernment: Be cautious and discerning, as not everything is as it seems. Some sins or virtues might take time to reveal themselves.
- Patience in Evaluation: When appointing leaders or evaluating others, don’t rush to conclusions based on appearances. Allow time for their true character to be evident.
- Encouragement for the Faithful: Even if your good works go unnoticed, trust that God sees them, and they will ultimately be recognized.
