Jesus teaches us that there is something far more fundamental to our sinfulness than the actual sins we commit. Our sins do not make us sinful. Rather, we commit sins because at the very center of our lives, we are sinful. Sin has invaded the inner recesses of our personalities. If we do not understand our sin, we will not understand the kind of Savior we need. In 1 Tim. 4:7, we are to “discipline (ourselves) for the purposes of godliness.” God uses means of grace to sanctify us, sanctification is entirely the work of God the Holy Spirit who imparts to us the very life of Christ. Sanctification is also the work of the Holy Spirit, but it involves a response on our part so that we as believers are actively involved in the process. We will never be free of sin until we get a new body.

Most people will have their thoughts trained on what they believe they are. If you believe you are a sinner, then your mind will be trained on sin and you will practice sin. If you believe you are the righteousness of God in Christ, then your mind will be trained on righteousness and you will do righteousness. I don't know about you Jim but I want my mind on righteousness, not sin.

Well Said Neph.

People never rise above what they believe.

It is needful to know who you and what you are. If we think and believe that we have to sin, then we will. But if we know and believe what the word says: "that which is generated from God... cannot sin... because it came from the God's seed" then we will walk in the light of that truth.

One of the most overlooked scriptural truths is that God has enabled us to never sin again. We have that capability.
Here is the key to walking in the reality of that truth:

1 John 5:
4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

We overcome the world and that victory is our faith.
If you have doubt about overcoming the world... then you will not overcome the world! You will never rise above your faith.

John defines "world" as:
the lust of the flesh
the lust of the eyes
the pride of life.

1 John 2:16
For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

These are the things that cause us to sin. We overcome these things by our faith. Not by struggling, tormenting ourselves, begging or crying. NO. Quite the opposite. We overcome the world by knowing we have the victory and that because we are children of God with His nature and boldly confessing that we have the ability to NOT sin.

I have overcome the lust of the flesh in Him.
I have overcome the lust of the eyes in Him.
I have overcome the pride of life in Him.

I walk in the spirit and so I do not fulfill the lusts of the flesh.

People who teach otherwise are teaching others to sin. What did Jesus say about such false teachers?

Matt 5:
19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

It would be best to take heed to these words those who teach that we have to sin! You risk your eternal reward in heaven!

Romans 13:14
But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts,

If God has done a work in our hearts, we should want to battle the sin of our hearts.Sin comes to us like Judas, with a kiss; like Joab, with outstretched hand and flattering words. The forbidden fruit seemed good and desirable to Eve; yet it cast her out of Eden. Walking idly on his palace roof seemed harmless enough to David; yet it ended in adultery and murder. We believers are described in 1 John 1:8 to 10, "And he will not deny his sin, he will confess his sin." The subject of dealing with sin must include a discussion of the issue of sanctification. Being sanctified means “to be separated from sin”. When we got saved, we were justified which is "declared righteous". Justification cannot be separated from sanctification. We are declared righteous in justification, and then the process of making us righteous begins to function in this sinful world. In our sanctification, we are go grow in spirit and truth. We are to continuing being spirit-filled and spirit-lead by allowing His grace to transform us what He wants us to be. the true nature of the Christian life which is unpredictable and expanding called "sanctification". God does not desire to destroy my will, but to sanctify “my will into His will”. Sanctification is a progress towards holiness which is spiritual growth. That’s becoming increasingly separated from sin and separated unto Jesus Christ who knows no sin. The process of sanctification goes on all our life long and it will never be completed until the day we die.

Agreed, and the reason why Paul said what he said in 2 Cor. 5:16-17 wasn't to instill pride, denial, or a false hope. When you realize who and what you're new self is you can use that truth in a very practical way to avoid sin. From experience I know that it is imposible to dwell on this truth every minute of the day. No one can do that. But when you are drawn away, when you are enticed and then tempted you can say 'wait a minute, I don't have to do this. I am no longer a sinner where I have to automatically give in. I am a child of God. I am the righteousness of God in Christ, this is beneith me.' That's not self discipline, that's trusting in God that we are who and what He says we are. And God says we are victorious saints, not defeated sinners.

Romans 13:14
But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts,
And those lusts, those evil desires, are residue left over from the old self, the sinful nature. Yes that residue can be very thick in presence, very powerful in the soul of a person but the Lord Jesus Christ is a million times more powerful. And when Paul says put on the Lord Jesus Christ what he is really refering to is Christ, which is the annointing. Christ is not Jesus' last name, it's a signifier to who and what He is, and as children of God we have that annointing also, we just have to renew our minds to that, we have to get it into our heads that nothing is too powerful for us to overcome. Ouh! I'm preaching to myself right now!

I like the easy way better :). Hey He made it possible for it to be easy so why not take it?

Hebrews 10:10, And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

Some translations use the word sanctification instead of holy, it means the samething. And when Ephesians says this:
EPH. 4:24, and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.
I know that I am already holy, sanctified, in my born again spirit. Instead of striving and struggling to make myself sanctified I'm going to believe Paul and realize that I am already there in spirit, I just need to renew my mind to that truth. Ok, not always easy, but it is simple.

Living in our current flesh is not easy. Sin (from Adam) is still there while in Spirit, I am alive. I was dead in spirit because of Adam's sin. I am alive in spirit because of Christ.

Jesus said:
John 6:63
It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.

Romans 8:2
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.

Our hearts are like a garden and must be kept free from weeds and insects. To expect the fruits and flowers bloom in an untended heart is to misunderstand completely the processes of Grace and grieving the Holy Spirit. A person's heart is always found running in the direction of his/her desires. God's purpose in redemption was not to make people’s lives happy, healthy and free of trouble; His purpose was to rescue them from sin then conform them from the inside out to the image of His Son by the power of His Spirit. Disability allows the life of Christ to be manifested to others through the flesh. God builds strength, virtue, compassion, faith and sacrificial love into His children “to become conformed to the image of His son.” (Romans 8:29)

I have to wonder. If we are born again in the image of the Father, and if we have been made the righteousness of God in Him. They how are we going to improve upon His righteousness? What are we going to do to add to what He has done?

I have to wonder. If we are born again in the image of the Father, and if we have been made the righteousness of God in Him. Then how are we going to improve upon His righteousness? What are we going to do to add to what He has done?
That's not quite the problem, the problem is people don't count themselves worthy to recieve God's righteousness, and or, they have been taught most of their lives that they are not worthy. Again, when you're taught something all your life you then have to renew your mind to what the truth really is, that you and I are worthy. The religious people don't like to hear that and they'll rebuke anyone who teaches it. And alot of it stems from this false belief that we're all just sinners saved by grace, the emphasis being on sinner.

Read my signature, sometimes people simply refuse to believe that the whole debt of sin was paid for on the cross by Jesus. Plus people want to be apart of the glory that only God should have. They actually want to take away some of the glory meant only for Jesus Christ so they can share in it. this belief that we must sanctify ourselves is a lie, Jesus has already sanctified us, our job is not to sanctify ourselves but to renew our minds to that sanctifying work Jesus has done once and for all, and then rest in that.

“Without sin.” is the statement that was made of Jesus’ life on earth (Hebrews 4:15), and that should be the goal of every person who desires to be godly. Granted, we will never reach that goal in this life. However, humility is the one thing needed to allow God's holiness to dwell in us and shine through us. The chief mark of counterfeit holiness is lack of humility. ;)

I don't go to Youtube because most are not captioned. Youtube is a place for those who can hear like yourself. ;)

However, I have been in Youtube where there are many deaf people using sign language. I also go into YouTube for my favorite songs.

Oh I'm deeply sorry, I forgot all about you being deaf. I didn't mean any offense. The YouTube video was of Tiny Tim singing Tip-Toe Threw the Tulips. Again, not meaning any offense by what you said but just wanted to add a little humor in this very serious debate we're having. ;)

And I do want to tell you that even though we disagree I am enjoying this and am finding what you say very interesting, not correct, but interesting.
