  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

1 John 3:3-10
3:4 Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness. 3:5 And you know that He was manifested to take away our sins, and in Him there is no sin. 3:6 Whoever abides in Him does not sin. Whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him.3:7 Little children, let no one deceive you. He who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous. 3:8 He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. 3:9 Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God. 3:10 In this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest: Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is he who does not love his brother.

On the above, I have the following understanding.

1. The moment I came to Know Christ as my Lord and Savior I am born of God. Is this correct?
2. But sometimes I commit a sin or sins. Does this mean I am not really born of God as mentioned in I John 3:10? So, how and what does it take for someone to be born of God?
3. Then if I am not really born of God, Does this mean that I am not yet sure that I am saved?

Please help.

1 John 3:3-10, The Message

3 All of us who look forward to his Coming stay ready, with the glistening purity of Jesus' life as a model for our own.
4 All who indulge in a sinful life are dangerously lawless, for sin is a major disruption of God's order. 5 Surely you know that Christ showed up in order to get rid of sin. There is no sin in him, and sin is not part of his program. 6 No one who lives deeply in Christ makes a practice of sin. None of those who do practice sin have taken a good look at Christ. They've got him all backwards.
7 So, my dear children, don't let anyone divert you from the truth. It's the person who acts right who is right, just as we see it lived out in our righteous Messiah. 8 Those who make a practice of sin are straight from the Devil, the pioneer in the practice of sin. The Son of God entered the scene to abolish the Devil's ways.
9 People conceived and brought into life by God don't make a practice of sin. How could they? God's seed is deep within them, making them who they are. It's not in the nature of the God-begotten to practice and parade sin. 10 Here's how you tell the difference between God's children and the Devil's children: The one who won't practice righteous ways isn't from God, nor is the one who won't love brother or sister. A simple test.

......I sure hope that you are not indulging in sin, enjoying it, refusing to practice righteous ways.
