What do you think Paul was saying here? "If you have a wife, do not seek to end the marriage. If you do not have a wife, do not seek to get married." Is it not in direct contradiction to 1 Cor. 7:9 "But if they can't control themselves, they should go ahead and marry. It's better to marry than to burn with lust."

The traditional commentary is that Paul believed persecution was coming upon the church and felt it would be easier to get thru that single than married.
So he advised those that were single to remain single.

This uses the hermeneutic principle to understand scripture in the historical time it was written.

Its not contradictory. Do not seek marriage if you single and not dating/courting anyone but if you cannot control yourself then marry the person If you are actually already dating/courting
