• CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
 • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Do you understand "the way out" or "way of escape" to be universal or personal? Jesus fought temptation with scripture alone. Joseph simply ran from Potiphar's wife. In other words, how do we know the way out, when at times it does not seem so clear? If you have some other passages, that would be helpful.

I beleive it is both universal and personal. Looking at Romans chapters 5-8 we see Paul addressing the issue of Christians struggling with sin. When we understand that in Christ we are no longer slaves to sin then we can begin to see the ways of escape. It could be that we suddenly find ourselves no longer tempted by something (for me it was being a drunk) and others we continue to struggle with (for me its lust). In the case of lust I know that I can refocus on higher things, I can read His Word or spend more time in prayer. I can ask Him to help me capture those thoughts and hanlde them in godly ways. Every Christian can do those things (thus universal). How about personal? I can set a personal standard about what movies and TV shows I watch, put a password protected internet filter on my computer, or make myself accountable to my bride or someone else.

I hope that helps.

Is it biblical for me to believe there is a situation of temptation I will never overcome, and I should therefore, completely remove myself from it? Or, is it biblically correct to believe that my faith in Christ, and the universal (prayer, God's word) should be enough to deliver me? We're not talking about a situation in which simply being in it is sinful -- it is merely the temptation.

Removing yourself from the temptation is a biblical approach. I can't answer for you as to what is enough. That is something only you can answer. FOr example, I know people who can't even go into a bar and some have an issue with even seeing commercials on TV for alcohol. While others can go into a bar, have one ot two, and not sin (give in to the temptation).

Look at every possible verse you can find that applies to your situation and read them prayerfully. If you are having trouble, and don't want to publicy state the issue, you can PM me, or use the Ask a chaplain forum.

Lk 4:4 And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.

Job 1:1 There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil.

Job 1:8 And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?

Prov 4:14 Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men.
15: Avoid it,
pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away.
