  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Definitely the church. The context of 1 Cor 12 clearly referred to the church.

Paul referenced saved Jews and saved Gentiles - together of whom comprises the church. In Romans 10-11 Paul distinguished two groups within Israel - saved Jews and unsaved Jews. Saved Jews and unsaved Jews comprise Israel, not the church. Therefore Paul perceived a distinction between the church and Israel.

the church or Israel

How can it be Israel? 1 Corinthians 12:13-"For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit."

Paul here is speaking of a group composed of both Jews and Gentiles, how then can it be limited to only Israel?

When did this "Spirit baptism" first begin?

The Sprit baptism first began in the day of Penteciost as described in the Book of Acts. Jesus had mentioned that while He was still on Earth bodily.

'...I will not leave you comfortless...', '...the world will se me no more but you shall see me...', etc as described in John.

I think it was John the Baptist, as described in Matt. 3:11 and Jn 1:33 - yes, the verse numbers are just a conincidence.

Then, In;
1 Corinthians 12:13-"For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit."

To what does this "one body" refer?:wave:

The one body is the truth that was revealed to Paul. It was a secret that was hid in God before creation, this truth was not revealed to John the Baptist. John came preaching a baptism of repentence, a REQUIRED baptism for the remission of sins. Peter preached this baptism in Acts 4. Paul preached a baptism into Jesus Christ, a baptism that comes upon all believers that believe that Christ died for their sins at calvary and now puts Jews and Gentiles alike on equal footing. This is a baptism you WILL NOT find preached until Paul.

So you are suggesting that the one body is a grouping of thoughts or teachings or doctrine? Is this how the NT authors used this term? To what do they attribute this consept of the "one body"?
