COMMENTARY: It is critically important to carefully read the Dicastery of the Doctrine of the Faith’s answers to Bishop Negri’s questions in context — and to ignore silly headlines from media sources that do not understand Catholic teaching.

If you’ve been watching the news, you were likely surprised to see clickbait headlines from mainstream outlets like The Washington Postproclaiming: “Vatican says transgender people can be baptized, serve as godparents.” After all, such a headline conflicts directly with Pope Francis’ many declarations about gender ideology.

For example, in his encyclical Laudato Si, Pope Francis explained that “valuing one’s own body in its femininity or masculinity is necessary if I am going to be able to recognize myself in an encounter with someone who is different.” And as recently as 2019, the Vatican’s Congregation for Catholic Education reaffirmed that “human nature must be understood on the basis of the unity of body and soul” and condemned “the separation of sex from gender.”

If they wanted to be crystal clear about it they could have written it that way. Instead they wrote it so the mainstream media could read the tea leaves. Which they did. It’s not a case of normal Catholics looking for something nefarious to believe about the ‘Magisterium of Francis’ but about pope Francis and company failing to be clear. As in being so unclear that everybody will know that everything is allowed now. As in being intentionally unclear.

If the Magisterium of Francis wasn’t different than the Magisterium of the Church why even HAVE a Magisterium of Francis? Because there is opposition there. Do you have a better way of understanding it? I’m all ears.

I for one am tired of needing to re-read Vatican statements over and over again to discover the hidden message.
And it won't make any difference, even if you do discover the secret code---people are still going to believe what they want to believe, one way or the other.

Debating any statements from the current Vatican pertaining to any aspect of sexuality is rather akin to this:

Basically this is true Wols.

So Sensational headlines are best avoided.
Clickbait, and twists.
