Florida will also crack down on drug dealers targeting kids.

TITUSVILLE, Florida (LifeSiteNews) — Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis on Monday signed tough new legislation that will beef up penalties for drug-dealers who target kids and make child rapists eligible for the death penalty. Another measure will shield Floridians from left-wing bail reform policies that have led to increased crime rates by softening penalties for law-breakers.

Gov. DeSantis’ office announced the approval of the laws in a Monday afternoon press release, touting the measures as a means to “strengthen public safety and further Florida’s position as the leading state in the nation for law and order.”

Good. The only way to prevent crime is to make the criminals so afraid of the penalties that they avoid committing the offense to begin with.

No deterrent is 100% effective, but it doesn't have to be in order to be worthwhile. I would like to see execution methods that resemble Mortal Kombat fatalities.

I have a punishment in mind for terrorists and sex slave traffickers that might be a bit sick even by Vlad Tepeș standards. And no, I'm not going to elaborate on this forum.

They allow and promote stumbling blocks such as porn and casinos, then want to kill anyone who becomes spiritially sickened by the evil activities they feed to the public, activities they profit from in the form of tax revenue. This is so freaking hypocritical of any government. YOU made the peoples sick. It is your job to heal them. You can start by banning all porn, casinos and prostitution. YOU knew beforhand what these activities would result in but your lust for bigger tax revenues made it OK. Governments are liable for the sicknesses they create in people for the sake of money. The solutions to these problems are so simple but nobody wants to sacrifice $$$$ in order to achieve them. Installing harsh laws will NEVER be justified because they are more often than not a panicked response to the outcome of gross neglect of spiritual duty.

No. It is our job as individuals to police ourselves and to avoid things that would cause us to sin. It is not the government's job to ban stuff that might inspire some people to do evil. That's like banning guns because they could be used in a crime. Or banning short skirts and halter tops because they "might" inspire impure thoughts.

Or banning alcoholic beverages because they might be consumed to the point of drunkenness. Remember how that worked out for us?

You said "I would like to see execution methods that resemble Mortal Kombat fatalities."

And you were implying that I was being too legalistic? :)

Sounds a whole lot like you don't believe in accountability.

Said the crowd to Jesus as they were about to stone a woman caught in adultery...
Apples and oranges. You believe the government should be held accountable for the sins of its people. Each person has free will and are accountable for their own sins. Personal accountability.

The concept of people as morally accountable individuals with agency is implied through all Scriptures. If you sin, would you be let off the hook if you said "The Devil made me do it"?
Refer to St Paul.

He basically said that the death penalty if he were creating the crime, would be just.

Just wondering if you are intentionally or accidentally in the Catholic forum telling us how free will does not exist? Are you here on your own free will or were you predestined to break forum rules?
I guess he was not predestined to answer such questions. Oh well.

If we are serious about preventing crimes, one good way is high penalties for crimes. It seems kind of basic.

I was the victim of one malicious crime. The police comment was “oh well, they probably knew each other.” Which was not true, but it gave the police a pass to do nothing and the perps were never held to account and I never even learned who attacked me. The guilty were protected. I moved. That was years ago. The city was Minneapolis, which in my opinion is no where near a safe city after the riots of 2020. The slide began years before.

If the A's move to Las Vegas, can we convert the Oakland Coliseum into something like the Roman Colosseum? Where condemned evildoers are made to battle fire-breathing robots, giant lawnmowers, and a robotic remake of that monster in Jabba's palace from Star Wars?

For heaven's sakes. don't give Newsom and his ilk any ideas! They're liable to put such a plan into operation, and there won't be a Christian or a conservative left in California within six months----they'll either be hiding out in Death Valley evading patrols while they try to get into Nevada, or lying on the floor of the Newsomium Amphitheater in pools of their own blood.

Good point. I got out of California while I still could. Three years ago I said "Goodbye California - Hello Ohio". I have not looked back since.

I was going to propose soliciting sponsorships from Subway if we could send Jared, their former mascot to the Coliseum. Maybe if the Star Wars monster robot wears Subway gear as it devours Jared.

Moving is one rational option people have. Maybe not for everyone though. I actually moved again years later, to a different state. I loved Minnesota for it's natural beauty. And it did have good government until the slide to gender wokeness led by the Minneapolis political establishment. Minneapolis was once mayored by the great Hubert Humphrey. How it has fallen. And taken the state and the nation with it. I didn't move this time because of the wokeness, but it was what unglued me from staying. Something I thought could never happen. Now I live in flatland where reservoirs pass for lakes and ditches pass for rivers, but at least they know how to pass abortion restrictions and how to protect children from sexual mutilation.
