“engage in discussion, criticism and debate about religious ideas and practices”
This case has split opinion. Obviously, the above is fine, and is what the press should be doing.

But accusing a network of deliberately using a Muslim presenter on a day when the lead story was a terror attack, even though she had been scheduled to be on before the attack took place, is just a lie, and the press aren't allowed to simply lie. A big part of IPSO's job is to hold them to account in that regard. That's the theory, it's not a job IPSO are very good at.

Additionally, there is a debate to be had around the suggestion that it is somehow inappropriate to have a Muslim journalist reporting on a terror attack committed by a Muslim. As ridiculous a suggestion as that is, I don't think a newspaper's right to raise it should be restricted. But it should be derided and mocked, which it was.

【The Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO) ruled that former Sun editor Kelvin MacKenzie was “entitled” to give his opinion and newspapers may “engage in discussion, criticism and debate about religious ideas and practices”.

However, “victim” and Channel 4 journalist Fatima Manji said that the ruling was “frightening” and signals it is now “open season on minorities and Muslims in particular”, adding there should be “limits” to free speech.】

Isn't it great that an organization can rule an individual can have an opinion about a Muslim woman on a news network?

Conflict sells. And those with the most polarizing presence in media get attention.
