  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Holy days of Obligation in the USA

I am having a difficult time finding a schedule of Holy Days of Obligation for the US. The only ones I know aside from Christmas and Easter are January 1 and November 1, but I think that there may be more between those four. Is there a good app or an online calendar where I can determine this...

Peter Singer's Drowning Child-What obligation do we have towards people in need who are far away?

I have always found Peter Singer's "Drowning Child" example a compelling argument for my obligation to help people in need, even if they are far away from me. I will paste his main argument below (link at the bottom). "To challenge my students to think about the ethics of what we owe to...

I need help on this guilt (obligation)

There is something that is one of the reasons my faith struggles: obligations. My mom had me go to this prayer group every Sunday after mass... I didn't think I belong here or even carry those learnings to the outside world. I didn't ask to go here; my mom just told me and that was it. Going to...

    Memorial Days

“Memorial Day” is a US holiday commemorating people who have died while serving in the US military, usually in a time of war. Some people extend that to also say that the holiday is a day to honor our soldiers who they say have died protecting our nation and our freedoms. Today was “Memorial...

    Wonderful News!

In Christ Jesus Romans 8:1-4 NASB Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death. For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His...

    Mass attendance obligation

I don't agree with the obligation to attend Mass within the Catholic Church. Somedays I don't feel I want to leave the house (because of my mental illness), and feel that that is too much of a commitment I am not able to make. And the law of the church says that if one misses the Mass, one has...

    If in Fact

Tuesday, August 22, 2017, 6:00 a.m. – The Lord Jesus put in mind the song “My Jesus, I Love Thee.” Speak, Lord, your words to my heart. I read Romans 8:1-17 (ESV). Flesh and Spirit (vv. 1-8) There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of...

    Our Vows

Tuesday, November 1, 2016, 9:00 a.m. – The Lord Jesus put in mind the song “Gift of God.” Speak, Lord, your words to my heart. I read Psalm 116 (ESV). Pleas for Mercy (vv. 1-4) I love the Lord, because he has heard my voice and my pleas for mercy. Because he inclined his ear to me...
