The Gospels Codex from 78 AD - where is it?

In the early 1700's a librarian from the Vatican discovered an ancient codex containing the 4 Gospels of the New Testament written in Aramaic. On its last page the scribe made a note that it had been completed on December 18th, 78 AD. This information was forgotten until around 1889 when a...

An idea on advanced catechtical formation

I thought I would run this idea by this forum first, given the intelligence and open mindedness of this community, although on reflection, while I am in some respects liberal, I am in other respects moderate, in still others, conservative, and in all things, inspired by temptation. So this...

    Jesus walking on water

This passage is so well known that the phrase "walking on water" is now part of everyday use, though not everyday practice! This was the passage for the sermon used in last week's online service. In fact there are three parallel passages in Mt 14:22-33, Mk 6:45-52 and Jn 6:15-21 - the sermon...

The LAW the Sabbath and the Gospel of Matthew - Shall we reject them?

Are you saying that "you are a cult if you follow the teachings of Jesus found in scripture in the case of the gospel of Matthew"?? Not sure if that is a serious post or not- but supposing for a second that it was serious - wouldn't it explain some of the push back you find now and then to...

    Passages challenging Calvinism

Hello, all! For many months, maybe a year, I've been studying debates for and against Calvinism. While passages such as Romans 9 are claimed by Calvinists to support their position, I'd like to hear your view on at least one of the passages challenging Calvinism. (Quotations are from the New...

    Gospels are eyewitness accounts

In a recent discussion an atheist raised the view that a great many modern scholars do not consider the gospels to be eyewitness testimony. In the words of bhsmte: "The gospels, don't claim to be eye witness accounts and they were penned by anonymous authors, decades after the supposed events...

Good News in the Gospels - yes really!

The great thing about the Gospel accounts - is that this shows us what Christ was teaching. In Matthew 28 the disciples were told to go out to the world and teach others "all the things that I taught you" . So then the Gospel letters were designed to do exactly that - as they were written years...

Should the Christian Bible consist only of the four gospels?

Honestly, I think the life of Jesus and his teachings are FAR more important than anything Paul said, yet many churches seem to be based more upon Paul than the gospels. Since Jesus' teachings surpassed the Old Testament, is there any real reason to study it, other than for historical background?

Why didn't the Church combine the gospels into one document?

I understand that the original canonical gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) were written for different audiences, which makes sense. However, why hasn't the Church since combined the four into one document?

The Four Gospels on Sabbath & Resurrection

There has been a lot of discussion on CF of the relation between the Jewish day of rest and worship, Saturday, and the Christian day of rest and worship, Sunday. When and how was this change made, and by who? Does the Bible authorize the church to change the day of worship? Gentile Christians...
