  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How the Catholic Catechism connects to Church History

Guys, after linking the AI on my computer to a downloaded Catechism, and a downloaded Church History book, this has supercharged the AI's understanding of the Catholic Catechism. The Catechism provides a glimpse into the practices and beliefs of the early Christian Church as well as the...

    Is Catholzism Universalist?

According to modern Catholicism, Jews go to heaven even if they do not believe in the Gospel. Not only the Jews but also the Muslims are saved according to the Catechism; they even believe in the same God: "The plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in the first place...

    Catechizing at Evensong

So recently it came to my attention that according to the 1662 and other editions of the BCP, a catechtical session is in theory supposed to follow the Nunc Dimitis, but in practice this is rarely if ever done, and I have never heard it. That said, a part of me is intrigued by the idea of...

An idea on advanced catechtical formation

I thought I would run this idea by this forum first, given the intelligence and open mindedness of this community, although on reflection, while I am in some respects liberal, I am in other respects moderate, in still others, conservative, and in all things, inspired by temptation. So this...

need advice, new to the orthodox church

So the pastor at that orthodox church gave my gf and I a book to read before we go back to meet him after the new year. I’m almost 1/4 of the way in but there is a problem, my gf hasn’t read any of it. She never commits to anything, I’ve reminded her like 5 times to read it so we don’t go back...

    Catechism book #4: Soul Perfection

"The life in Christ originates and begins in this life, but is perfected in the life to come, when that [last] day comes. It cannot attain perfection in men's soul in this life, nor can it in the life to come unless it begins from here... It is this world which carries within it the new inner...

Catechism book #3: Parts of the church building (Video)

Howdy! I was wondering if there was a video describing the parts of the church building (narthex, nave, etc) since it is kind of difficult to understand the descriptions if I am not sure what it is talking about. Thanks!

Catechism book #2: Baptism and Regeneration

Howdy! I'm still reading my catechism book to inform myself more before I join the Church, so I am planning to ask questions I have about my book. I believe the first thread based on that was What did St. Gregory Palamas mean with this?: What did St. Gregory Palamas mean with this? I have...

Catechism book #1: What did St. Gregory Palamas mean with this?

I was reading a catechism book and there was a quote of Palamas calling the Holy Spirit "a kind of ineffable yet intense [and subsistent] longing or eros experienced by the Father for the Logos".

Going on my Summer Break Tomorrow, Farewell!

Barring something big happening on CF, this will be my final day on Christian Forums, before I go on my summer break. I've really enjoyed it here, I've made some nice friends, and it's nice to finally be on the front lines, albeit it can be stressful and I still have a lot to learn. I'll still...
