Father Nathan Monk stepping down from priesthood in support of LGBTQ?

He was ordained in fall 2012, it also seems he was received into Orthodoxy that same year. Not even a year in the Orthodox Church and he's already headed out the door.

The Unofficial, Official List of banned topics during Great Lent!

I've always wondered, is beer okay in Russian fasting? I've normally fasted from it in college because me and my friends drank so regularly (and got drunk once a week or every other week). But now I don't drink nearly as often.

Pope Francis I: A Friend to the Orthodox?

ugh... I just visited the schismatic "traditionalist Orthodox" website to see what they were saying about the new Pope and the EP. I wished I hadn't. How can they even call themselves Orthodox? If some think that our "speaking the truth in love" is hate speech, they need to see that site. You...

Pope Francis I: A Friend to the Orthodox?

What do you base this on? Surely you don't buy into those ridiculous Malachy prophecies.

Pope Francis I: A Friend to the Orthodox?

Why do you call them "Catholic Church" instead of Roman Catholic? You should know that we are the Catholic Church.

    Good sign? Or no?

The EP isn't a great Ecumenist heretic like some Old Calendarists in Greece like to think he is. He knows his boundaries and the things he shouldn't ever do. If he were to receive any sort of sacrament from the Roman Catholics, especially communion, he'd be excommunicated by most if not all...

Pope Francis I: A Friend to the Orthodox?

It doesn't all tie together, why would the Roman Catholic Saints prophecies about Popes be any concern to us as Orthodox? Those prophecies are a bunch of hooey anyway, just like the Bible Code stuff.

Pope Francis I: A Friend to the Orthodox?

I dunno, but I think it is definitely a safe bet the Russian Patriarch isn't. He is one of the major Patriarchs who hasn't ever met with the Pope in recent years. However I could see them sending Metropolitan Hilarion Alfayev as a representative.

    Supposing I returned

No to the three in red. If you returned, you'd be received through profession of faith and chrismation. Traditionally this would include a special chrismation either for Anglicans, or for former Orthodox. For a friend of mine who left Roman Catholicism, there is a special chrismation "service"...

    Modernization of The Orthodox Church

I have no problem with cultural parish events, I think they're a great thing. People SHOULD celebrate their ethnic identity. But I don't think that it should be something that excludes others, or that comes before being Orthodox. The purpose of cultural parish events like Greek Festivals, Slavic...

    Modernization of The Orthodox Church

Church should definitely have Youth Groups, but that doesn't mean they get a separate service or get to leave in the middle. Even the little ones need to stay for the entire Liturgy. As for Liturgy, if you look at the past 2,000 years, while the Liturgy has changed, it hasn't been all that...

Pope Francis I: A Friend to the Orthodox?

I don't see a problem here, I think it's wonderful. It was nice to see our Pope of Alexandria attend the enthronement of HH Pope Tawadros. Not so much abot reunion discussion, but its sad to see extreme Old Calendarists in Greece condemn us if we even sneeze next to a Catholic.

    New Pope

I'd say Axios to the Oriental Orthodox, but never to schismatic "Orthodox" groups, nor to Eastern Catholics. We're far closer to the OO than to the RC. I could see reunion with OO in a century or two or three. For the RCC to rejoin will take much longer.

Turkish Gov't "at work" on reopening Halki seminary

Remember though, just a couple months ago they returned all the land to us.

The Vatican and the Serbian Holocaust

It IS stupid to hate, to be prejudice against another and to hold a grudge, and to not forgive. Just FYI, part of my ancestry is Native American, so yes, I've had ancestors who had genocide committed. Nothing ever gives an excuse to hate another human being.

Pope Francis I: A Friend to the Orthodox?

Yoder, you are clearly not taking this from an Orthodox perspective. I seriously doubt that you've talked to several Priests about your views on the issue. You would probably find that they would warn you to be cautious, and tell you not to reject the teachings of the Orthodox Church on the...

    OCN Video re SNL skit

Do you all realize this isn't meant to be taken seriously? The entire point behind it is the fact that Jesus preached peace and forgiveness. Even the secular world recognizes this. Some people are just too uptight and take things far too seriously these days, I'm so glad I'm part of a...

Pope Francis I: A Friend to the Orthodox?

Thank you for saying it so well. That is what we all should affirm as Orthodox Christians. There is a great desire for unity, but sadly we cannot due to the developments that have occurred in the Roman Catholic Church. However, unless the Roman Catholic Church has major changes occur within it...
