I would start with the NT. That is what worked best for me. Most Christians I have found to prefer starting with the NT.

Francis Chan and David Platt really challenge Christians who talk the talk but don't walk it. Maybe offer them Platt's book "Radical." Another good challenging book I have heard about is "not a fan."

I would look for a church that has a real culture and atmosphere of grace. It is one thing to preach grace, quite another to live and breathe it. A small Baptist church I have been a part of recently has a tremendous culture of grace that I have not seen in many churches.
