However, the beliefs of many contemporary Episcopal clergy are quite different from early Christian beliefs. Sad to say.

AaronH... For me, "meditational prayer" is one of those phrases that carries different meanings for different people and groups. I will start the posts by giving you a formal definition of "meditation", and direct you to a link to some "meditational prayers" from a parish in Ireland...

Hazel... I have tried many different worship styles in my lifetime (63 years). The Anglican High Church liturgy does more for my soul than the others.

I enjoy reading this thread. I have used the Jesus Prayer for many years now. And I agree, it has been a miracle for me spiritually, emotionally, and physically. And socially, because when I finish repeating the Jesus Prayer, using a prayer rope, I am able to be a better person to others...

I am encouraged to hear the many good comments about the English translation NRSV on this forum. Here are a sampling of some of the NRSV editions available.

I recommend the NRSV. I do NOT recommend the ESV.

I follow the BCP 1979: Morning and Evening Prayer. After reading the daily lectionary, I read from Forward Day by Day, Holy Women Holy Men, and All Saints.
