Earth is geocentric (perhaps even flat)

I posted a video of a team of amateurs building a rocket and filming the earth where the curvature can be clearly seen. This means you can potentially build it yourself and see for yourself. I won't waste any more time on this until you tell me your position on this.

10 Scientific Facts Evolution is Wrong

I know what you mean. Once you've seen this sort of thing it's kind of hard for it to be unseen. I'm supposed to be rational and here I am experiencing something strange that seems more real than real.

"Nobel laureates: ban creationism in Scottish schools"

I agree with you. I don't think that that was what the article was talking about though. If Creationism is taught as fact in publicly funded schools then there is definitely a problem in my mind.

"Nobel laureates: ban creationism in Scottish schools"

Of course this is a good idea because Creationism is not science and is demonstrably false. For instance, if one were curious to look at some graphs about C14 dating methods correlating with calendar years, it should prove beyond any reasonable doubt that the earth is at least older than 6000...

    13 reasons KJV is wrong

There used to be a society in the 19th century called the "universal zetetic society". Founded by a man named Samuel Rowbotham, the principle of the society was to disbelieve in "conventional knowledge" and to believe in what they thought was observed only (the earth looks flat so it can't be...

A finely tuned universe that points to a God.

I have read all of the above. So far Langan's solution answers the most questions for me. In Krauss' "universe from nothing" he doesn't attempt to find a solution to the problem of where the laws of physics come from. In my opinion, that's a big metaphysical mistake.

A finely tuned universe that points to a God.

This thread has been a fascinating read for me. OP is obviously a lot more knowledgeable on the subject than I am. I used to be satisfied with multi-verse anthropic arguments but I find myself more and more dissatisfied with these arguments because they seem like a bit of a cop-out and so I...

For RichardT: why creationism is harmful

It's strange to me. I have been gone for so long. dad and av are still here and have always been arguing the same things as when I left. Incredible.

For RichardT: why creationism is harmful

Thanks. I'll be around. I forgot how entertaining these boards could be. It's just the right mix of really knowledgeable people and few ultra-dedicated creationists.

Taking questions of the Different state past (2)

if you're going to claim that everything was different in the past and that things will be different in the future, you'll be right in your own mind. But my question to you is: what do you think is more consistent of an objective view of the evidence? You notice that if radio-isotopes had...

For RichardT: why creationism is harmful

I'm going to bring this thread back from the grave because I had just realized TODAY (August 20, 2014) that this thread was written about me 7 years ago and it's kind of overwhelming to me that I haven't noticed it in all of this time. I find this thread fascinating in some ways. It brings back...

Skeptic Michael Shermer on Atheism, Happiness, and the Free Market

There will definitely be business cycles but they will not be as devastating as when government "regulates" and / or destroys the natural order of the free market. As humans, we have long ago gotten over the need to evolve for specific survival purposes. In the same way, this is the best system...

Skeptic Michael Shermer on Atheism, Happiness, and the Free Market

The mechanisms for biological evolution are almost analogous to those of the market. My question is, why is it that so many people, intellectuals even, fail to understand the basic concept of the invisible hand? YouTube - Skeptic Michael Shermer on Atheism, Happiness, and the Free Market

    Quantum Strangeness

The fact that I observe something changes the location of the particles. If I understand you correctly you are saying that anything will change the position of the particles and that this isn't that much of a concern. I would like to know what this could mean about observable reality? Does this...

    Quantum Strangeness

I don't think that solipsism is correct. For solipsism to be true you would have to have knowledge of what exterior forces are going to do to you. Since there are unknowns outside of your perception, I would say that it's more likely that you aren't the only conscious agent. With that being...

Very interesting. I've got to get around to reading Kant.

    Quantum Strangeness

I've wanted to explore some of the conclusions arrived by the findings of quantum theory. It is said that quantum particles behave differently by the act of observing them. Can I conclude that the universe as we observe it doesn't actually exist? Or that consciousness creates "reality"? What are...
