What about the prophetesses mentioned in the Bible: Miriam, Deborah, Anna, etc.? As well as Queen Esther? These women held positions of physical and/or spiritual authority. Do you think they were going against God's Word, or fulfilling a calling?

The verse you quoted was pre-Christ. Remember Paul's statement about their being neither "male nor female... you are all ONE in Christ Jesus." My opinion is that this removed that sense of "ownership" that men used to have over women.
