  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Ron DeSantis Ends Campaign: "A Majority Of Republican Primary Voters Want To Give Donald Trump Another Chance" Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis suspended his presidential campaign and endorsed former President Trump in this video posted Sunday afternoon on Twitter, two days before the New Hampshire...

Is there any reason for all the recent Seventh Day Adventism-related threads in this subforum?

Looking at the most recent 20 threads in this subforum at the time of writing this post, eight are directly related to Adventism and two can be seen as indirectly related (the Sabbath-related ones). That's 40% of the topics being explicitly about it, and half the topics if we count the Sabbath...

Why is an incest exception for abortion seen as so critical?

With elections coming up, I've been seeing a lot of advertisements trying to attack pro-life candidates running in my area for (allegedly) being against abortion even in the case of rape and incest. That phrase (or something very similar) is repeated ad nauseam in these commercials, saying they...

How was turning stones into bread a temptation in Matthew 4:3/Luke 4:3?

The devil's attempt to tempt Jesus is well known from Matthew 4:1-11. The pertinent portion for us is Matthew 4:1-4: Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 2 And after fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. 3 And the tempter came and...

Where can one find canonization records?

During the process of canonization, there are obviously records and such about it, like the testimony of witnesses (either on the person themselves or miracles attributed to them). I know they have to be available somewhere because I've seen works refer to them, but I don't know where the full...

    Manuscript information on extrabiblical writings?

While there's a lot of information on dates/locations/contents of biblical manuscripts, there seems to be much less information readily available concerning the manuscripts of extrabiblical Christian texts. For example, Shepherd of Hermas, Ignatius's epistles, Irenaeus, Origen, Jerome, etc...

Did any framers say the electoral college was made to give small states more representation?

A claim often made regarding the electoral college is that it was designed to try to make it so when it comes to the presidency, the smaller states can get better representation so the larger states can't simply dominate the system. But I have yet to see anyone who makes this assertion actually...

What are examples, if any, of "sensible" languages?

So being fluent in English, fairly competent in Spanish and mediocre in Japanese and Latin, one thing I've noticed is that all of these languages are, quite frankly, kind of crazy and not at all, for lack of a better term, "sensible." For example, while Spanish is fairly standard in its...

Who was the first to offer the "seven churches = seven time periods" interpretation?

One of the interpretations of the Book of Revelation is that the seven churches that John addresses were prophetic in also referring to seven different time periods of the church. Does anyone know who was the first person to offer this interpretation? It's okay if it doesn't match up perfectly...

Do Greek Christians normally read the NT in the original language or a Modern Greek version?

Figured this might be a good place to ask this. It's my understanding that unlike English, where if you go back to just the year 1000 you basically find a different language, Koine/Biblical Greek is actually reasonably comprehensible to a modern Greek speaker, though obviously not as much as...

What does Daniel 7:17 say in the Peshitta?

This is an unusual question, but if there's anyone here who knows Syriac, can they tell me what Daniel 7:17 says in the Peshitta? Or more specifically, if it says "four kings" or "four kingdoms"? If you want to know why I'm asking... English translations of Daniel 7:17 normally use the phrase...
