i'm not sure if this has been done before and really not even sure if anyone can answer this for me but here goes...

the Bible portrays Jesus as being at the right hand of God. okay, i realize the Trinity is complex and all so i guess my question would be, since God, Jesus, and Holy Spirit are one, how is it that Jesus is at the right hand of God? or is that a metaphor?

I agree that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are one in essence. That is to say that The Father is God, the Son is just as much God as the Father, and the Holy Spirit is just as much God as the Father and the Son.

However, each member of the Godhead is also unique. Christ, Himself, distinguishes between His will and the will of the Father. (Luke 22:42)

We also know that the Father did not take on human form; the Son did. (Matt. 3:17) So, in that sense, I guess the Son sitting at the "right hand" of God is a metaphor.

The right hand is the place of prominence. Do you remember Jacob's blessing of Ephraim and Manasseh? Genesis 48:17-20. Ephraim (the younger) was told that he would be greater than Manasseh.

Because the Son was told to sit at the Father's right hand, (Ps. 110:1; Matt 22:44; Acts 2:34; Heb. 1:13), He was given the prominent place - the honored position.

That's the significance of Jesus being at the right hand.

Metaphor.

The right-hand position is an honor spot, the place where all the important dignitaries are placed. Next time they show a state dinner from the White House on TV, notice that the king, prince, PM, whatever, is always seated to the right of the President, because that is the spot of highest honor.

So this is saying, that Jesus occupies the place of highest honor.

If Jesus sits at the right hand, next to the Father, obviously the Father is higher in positon. Where does the Holy Spirit sit? At a lesser position? I thought that they were all absolutely coequal. But if they are manifestations of one God, wouldn't they all reside on one throne as one being? This idea of a trinity is confusing.

Christ sitting at the right hand of God is a metaphor. It was used to explain to humans who had seen Christ on earth as a man that Christ is also God. It was used as confirmation that Christ is the Son of God. If you infer from the metaphor that the Son is less than the Father, then you have missed the point of the metaphor.

There is not corresponding metaphor for the Holy Spirit since He was never seen as a man.

"God, Jesus, and Holy Spirit are one, how is it that Jesus is at the right hand of God?"

Don't believe everything you read on this thread or on this forum. Study for yourselves.

How can two or more be "one"?

John 17
19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.
20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;
21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.
22 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:
23 I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.

Christians are to be as one, as Jesus (the Son) and Jesus' God (the Father) are.
