It's probably easier to be single because you can be so flexible about responding to God's call, but it's probably better to be married because you have someone to go through all the joys and sorrows of full-time ministry with.

families of ministers often are on the receiving end of great strain in supporting their husbands/wives.

If you feel called to the Lord for ministry purposes then He will guide those He calls so that they become aware of Gods desire for them to remain single and possibly celebate, or to share their lives with someone.

I don't think it depends on whether or not you are married or single. I think it depends on your calling. I feel called to work with youth through conferences and it would take a man with the same calling to be a part of my life...because this calls for extensive travel, and I can't think of leaving my husband while I go around the world ministering...

I wish that all men were as I am (single). But each man has his own gift from God; one has this gift, another has that.


Verse 28

But if you do marry, you have not sinned; and if a virgin marries, she has not sinned. But those who marry will face many troubles in this life, and I want to spare you this


Verses 32-35

I would like you to be free from concern. An unmarried man is concerned about the Lord's affairs--how he can please the Lord. But a married man is concerned about the affairs of this world--how he can please his wife-- and his interests are divided. An unmarried woman or virgin is concerned about the Lord's affairs: Her aim is to be devoted to the Lord in both body and spirit. But a married woman is concerned about the affairs of this world--how she can please her husband. I am saying this for your own good, not to restrict you, but that you may live in a right way in undivided devotion to the Lord.



Read all of 1 Corinthians 7, and you will understand how a person can be fully devoted to ministry as a single person. This is not to say that they cannot minister when married, because they can, but they are not as free to do so because his interests are divided between his God and his wife.

God has called me into the overseas missions field. I know that it would be better if I were single, in some ways, because then I could focus entirely on God. But, I do believe that God has called me to marry at some point in my life, and so that means that it will be better for me to be married.

Im thinking God wants me in the childrens ministry but im not gonna dedicate that until i know for sure and either way single or married it doesnt matter as long as im there where God wants me

God doesn't just call single people. Nor does he just call married people.

Whatever state you are in, serve the Lord with all your heart and be grateful you have been called at all.
