Premise: As the Roman Empire crumbles (circa 450 A.D.), the British Isles are thrown into a loose anarchy as errant knights are entrenched in years of territorial battle. Then, one king emerges to unite them, Arthur, with his concept of a Round Table of united knights. This film aims to tie the legend of Arthur into the realities of the time in which he would have ruled. The details of the plot aren't known, but this film will likely depict the battles that led to Arthur's reign, and the issues that he would have dealt with (the traditional "pulling Excalibur out of the stone" origin story will probably not be used).

Now here's a movie worth going to. King Arthur Wow. Watch the previews and TV spots that are available at http://kingarthur.movies.go.com/main.html and be amazed. This movie looks (to me) to be the best movie that will come out this year, followed by Troy and then some other attempts (maybe Harry Potter or something else like Aliens vs. Predator)

If any of you have ever read Jack Whyte's A Dream of Eagles books (The Skystone, The Singing Sword, The Eagles' Brood, The Saxon Shore, The Sorcerer I: The Fort at River's Bend and The Sorcerer II: Metamorphosis) you'll definately apprectiate this approach to Arthurian legend.

For those who haven't, when you watch the previews, notice that the armour and virtually everything else (the standards and the forts) that is associated with Arthur is Roman-style... how cool is that. It is set around 450AD, just as the Roman Empire is falling and has already left the shores of Britain, so that explains the Roman-ess of the gear, as those in command still try to hold everything together.

I'm really, really excited about this project and I've already started asking my friends at movie theatres to take me to the staff showing when it is released (July sometime)

The scoop is that they are aiming for an R-rated movie due to the fact that this will be about Arthur's wars to become King and it won't shy away from the love story between Arthur and Guinevere.

Actors in the movie are:
KING ARTHUR - Clive Owen
GUINEVERE - Keira Knightley
MERLIN - Stephen Dillane
GALAHAD - Hugh Dancy
LANCELOT - Ioan Gruffudd
CEDRIC - Stellan Skarsgaard
FULCINIA - Valeria Cavalli
BORS - Ray Winstone
GANIS - Charlie Creed-Miles
GAWAIN - Joel Edgerton
JOLS - Sean Gilder
HORTON - Pat Kinevane

I personally only recognise Keira Knightley's name, but looking at the other actor's profiles they look like they've got a fairly skilled and talented crew of people here. Looks awesome :D

I've found that I usually enjoy movies with that ind of theme, so I probably will go see it. I'll have to check out the trailers.

And I recognize Clive Owen in addition to Keira Knightley, but for the life of me, I can't remember what he's done. I'll have to look that up too.

My real problem with this movie is that they are trying to make it more historical, but insist on using the fantasy characters of the Arthurian Legends created around the 12th century.

King Arthur was indeed based on a real person. Lancelot, Merlin, and the others are all just literary creations.
