  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Well, to be honest, rolling one's eyes doesn't make a lot of noise.

But if one wants to make this a more open and welcoming society, if one takes the position that racism and religious bigotry has no place in a modern, democratic multi ethnic and multi cultural world, then what we should do is to encourage people not to disparage someone simply because of their race (ugly term), colour or religious beliefs.

So if if someone says that they have a 'strong, STRONG distaste for Islam' and then tars all Muslims with the same bigoted brush, we should call them out on that.

Do you think Palestinians should have, and still should welcome Jews into their lands too, and offer the newcomers some territory and conciliation? Or are Muslims excempt from these multicultural, multi-ethnic obligations?

Should all Muslim countries become more multi-cultural? Or just us?

Yes. And Jews should stop trying to drive the Palestinians out.

They are required to be righteous and just to those of different religions. Just as you are required to be by your pope: Pope: Christians and Muslims must work together to ‘revive humanity' - Vatican News

'In his address, the Pope suggested that compassion and empathy are “essential attitudes” of both Christianity and Islam.

It's a shame you don't exhibit either.

'Allah does not forbid you from those who do not fight you because of religion and do not expel you from your homes – from being righteous toward them and acting justly toward them. Indeed, Allah loves those who act justly.'

This is the place where I express my innermost thoughts and questions that I cannot ask in the real world, because it might be offensive to actual people.

...In the real world, I always treat Muslims with the highest level of respect and dignity. So it really makes no sense for you to judge me based on my inner thoughts, when my deeds are what matters.

Ironic how "Allah" is said to be so great just as his followers commit an act of terrorism. "Allah Akbar!"
Not so strange that the name of Allah, and Muslims who pledge allegiance to him are so often associated with terrorism.

Go make a(nother) thread about 'replacement theory'. This thread already has a topic.
The "exact" topic is dead already. We can probably discuss related issues by now, like mass Muslim immigration, and the effects it has on how people perceive Muslim migrants in receiving countries, and how that may or may not relate to this attempted murder - there's nothing wrong with broadening the discussion.

...Besides, I was nice and conceded an argument with you earlier. And that kindness is now rewarded with a directive to stop talking about something. I've seen that kind of attitude before, in those people who take kindness for weakness. Is that the kind of culture we want now? You might adapt easily to it, but I reject it entirely.

The thing is, we were only assuming at first that the attackers motives were based on Islam or 'how Islam is or isn't like Christianity'. What if the attacker actually stabbed this victim because he was a foreign immigrant? So there's nothing off topic here, when the whole thread was based on an assumption to begin with.

Another "option" for discussion would be to question whether the attacker was a military veteran, battling PTSD, who maybe was having an episode based on his past. In that case, we could discuss the effects of war on the human mind.

...Everything doesn't have to be based on 'wokeness' to be on topic in every thread. This isn't Woke Forums.

As the OP, I am saying that there is something wrong with turning a thread about a Muslim victim of violence into a discussion of the perceived threat posed by Muslims.

Don't worry, Brad... We can talk more 'in depth' here, because we're anonymous, and judgements don't matter here, because this isn't a 'real' place. Tell me why anyone would be dumbfounded by that.

Because you have just admitted that the life that you lead, the person that you present to the world, how you interact with others...is not the real you. It seems that you can only be truly honest when you're anonymous. That you will avoid being judged.

For a Christian to say that they believe that they won't be judged for what they truly think is beyond my comprehension.

God's judgement is different from the judgement of random people on the internet. He's correct to not worry about how you judge him.
