  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Anti-evangelical evangelicals.

The word evangelism means spreading the good Word to bring more to Christ. Today's evangelicals appear to be doing the opposite. The majority of today's evangelicals' political actions are dissuading most people. In the words of David French: "This is a finding that should trigger soul-searching among American evangelicals. If Jesus instructed his followers to “go and make disciples of all nations,” then it’s worth pondering whether the decision to so loyally support a man like Trump is worth actively repelling millions upon millions of Americans from church."
But I’m not holding my breath."

Funny how you just include trump and left off the other crooks, republican and democrats.
Plus many evangelicals would not know the actual true words to tell to an unbeliever, on how to receive God's free gift of Eternal Life!

It’s not funny. It’s sad. And I didn’t mention Trump. That was David French. And no other person has done so much to discourage the general public from responding to the gospel message. Can you name another who has given Christianity such a distasteful reputation?

You mention trump when you posted something some wrote about him.

Trump has in noway affected the Gospel message. It is people that are teaching a false worked gospel message that are affecting many people.

The gospel message is simple "believe in Jesus for Eternal Life" (God's free gift). So anyone (preachers, churches, etc..) not proclaiming that message is harming the gospel message. And is a minister of satan, Ministers of Satan - 2 Cor 11:14-15 - Grace Evangelical Society

I wonder if you yourself are a stalwart of the Christian faith. Do you support candidates that are pro-abortion, pro transitioning youth and allowing schools to usurp the rights of parents of those troubled youth to intervene. ???

Again, I did not mention Trump. French did. I posted French’s remarks. They weren’t mine. Therefore, obviously, “You mention Trump” is a misstatement.

Clearly this president’s close relationship with the Evangelical Christian population has affected the reception of the Gospel message. Misreading that to imply that the Gospel message is changed is simply careless. The Gospel doesn’t change. However the ability of Christians to proclaim the Gospel has clearly been impaired by this association with the president. As I asked before, name one other person whose affiliation with Evangelicalism has so radically distanced people from responding to the message of the Gospel.

I realize this is difficult. If you are locked into those dog whistles it can be difficult to respect another's faith if they don't concur. But I will tell you honestly I am "a stalwart of the Christian faith". When we get to heaven you can come and check.

Did French write the first post, if not then you mention trump whether you actually wrote it or not. You posted a person writing who did mention trump, so obviously your first post mentions trump. Unless you did not create that first post.

Well for one thing I am not sure how you are defining gospel.

But for the sake of the discussion I will use my definition of gospel, because I believe it is The Biblical definition of gospel. Which is good new and this good news is that God is offering His free gift of Eternal Life to anyone who will believe in Jesus for Eternal Life.

Now with that established using the Biblical definition of the gospel (belief in Jesus for Eternal Life). How has trump actually affected you in telling people about the Biblical definition of the gospel. How many times when you went to tell a person how to have God's free gift of Eternal Life, by believing in Jesus. Did the people say go away, I do not want to hear anything about receiving Eternal Life. Because trump is president and has ruined the gospel.

I think the concern is that Christian Evangelicals have pretty much ordained Trump, condoned every action and refuse to hold him accountable or critique him in any way. For those in need of evangelization with any sense of decency the "Christian Evangelism" is a total sham.

I think that is just an attempt/attack at using evangelism to make trump out as some kind of boogeyman.

Again where is any actual examples where a person has rejected God's free gift of Eternal Life. Because of trump and the way he acts.

Plus I will add I am not a trump supporter and have never been a trump supporter. But I also do not support any democrat and never will.

God predestined and calls and justifies every single true believer… it is not the noise and voices of this world who are responsible for saving someone. There are Christians who put forth the saving Word of God whom God called for His purpose before the creation of the world.

According to one biblical account the apostles reported to Jesus that some men were driving out demons in the name of Jesus yet were not sent out by Him. Jesus declared… whoever is for us is not against us.

This President is a believer. Each believer comes with different sets of responsibilities and talents and are at different stages of Christian growth.

You go in with abortion, no-God in platform types… and I could go on with a list of their godless evil actions and stances.

No human grants or takes away Christianity from another.

Again, you're on the wrong track. This is not about being unable to tell the Gospel story. This is about the growing unwillingness of people to listen to it. Jesus Himself spoke of locations where the Good News would not be accepted. Out President has greatly increased the many who will refuse to hear it. Name any other person with ties to evangelism who has discouraged people from hearing the gospel more than him.

Close. Exactly this. Except Trump has not ruined the Gospel. That cannot be ruined. Trump has diminished the receptiveness of people to hearing the Gospel. People do not respond, 'Trump has ruined the Gospel for me.' Instead people respond 'I don't want to hear about the Gospel because I don't like the way Trump has influenced the majority of today's evangelicals'. This is not the same as Democrats. There are plenty of reasons for you to dislike Democrats. But they haven't poisoned people's willingness to hear the gospel. I have left off "the other crooks, republican and democrats" because they are not the issue here. Some other post can deal with all their faults. If there's one who has done worse at poisoning people's willingness to listen to the message of the Gospel, let me know.

Where are you getting your information? What statistics?…sounds very dubious at best! Unwilling to hear the Gospel because a President of the US is a believer and they are probably not of his persuasion?

Probably only polling liberals yet again… a known problem with national polls taken by certain pollsters to prove what they want to hear.

As for your comment that Jesus said some pockets of people would not be willing to hear the Word… that’s only in Acts to my recollection when Paul was on his missions.

There are obstacles for some missionaries to overcome, but for certain God has His Kingdom at work preaching and teaching. All whom He has chosen for eternal life…before the creation of the world will be saved.

Generational Disengagement: A study by the Wheaton College Billy Graham Center Research Institute revealed that nearly half (48%) of Gen Z adults say that Christian support for Donald Trump makes them less likely to attend church.

That is a nonsensical poll to the highest degree.

You cannot measure the processing of the Word sown in the human heart. Unbelievers never want to be told they are sinners… their eyes are blind and the veil has not yet been removed. To poll them just allows them a mouthpiece to air their contempt.

The pollsters “sound” like they may be of Baptist persuasion? Baptists believe they “choose” God, which is false; God chooses us and not for anything good we have done.

Take a look at Apostle Paul’s life. We have Biblical examples like this as real and lasting truths. Apostle Paul endured great opposition to the Message. He was considered by unbelievers to be an outlaw. God was with him through it all and yet that success could never be measured by sinful human beings using human measuring sticks to glean facts known only to God. Elijah, a man of God, believed he was the only believer left and what did God say to him? He said, I have reserved 7,000 who have not bowed the knee to Baal.

Good proof passage that not all are readily receptive to the Message. Even the brothers of Jesus were living in unbelief until after the cross. Not all are called and as for many, it is a slow maturation process of the word within them. It is only God who makes His seed grow.
