  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Lord please take me in the rapture

Yes but, we are not appointed to wrath, which is just around the corner. I pray for it often. Will people who don’t believe in it go? It’s the time of his coming.

Let's pretend for a moment that wrath is "just around the corner" (I have no reason to believe that this is the case, but for the sake of argument). Is God somehow incapable of preserving His people through acts of judgment?

Was God unable to preserve Noah and his family through the flood?
Was God unable to preserve Lot before sending fire down upon Sodom?

Do you have such a small view of God that you are incapable of believing that God can't preserve, protect, and persevere His Church through judgment, persecution, and all manner of trouble?

This is such a terrible argument you are making. It's a terrible argument for the reasons I just explained; but just as bad is that the only reason you're making this argument is because it's a canned argument--it's a talking point. It's an ill-thought pre-constructed argument made by Dispensationalists, and unfortunately many don't bother to actually question the rationale of the argument.

And that's a tragedy. Because doing good biblical exegesis should involve deep and provoking thought. Not blindly swallowing whatever snail oil elixir the eccentric man on a wagon offers.

How many people here are hoping to go in the rapture but don't know if they will be selected? I am a relatively young Christian but not an infant. And I pray every day of these end days to go in the rapture. I tell the Holy Spirit that whatever learning I need to do I can do it on the other side...Praise God..

The thief acknowledged Jesus..
So did demons and the Tempter. What they did not do however was put the will of God ahead of their own and repent of their self-serving ways as the repentant thief did. Like the demons and rebellious elohim, the other thief only thought of himself.

that’s the one thing I don’t want to do is argue. But God is protecting His people with the rapture. Protecting them from the wrath to come. God always comes through and it’s foretold and it’s a real thing and it’s in the Bible. What’s not to believe. Some very astute preachers believe in it. It’s our hope. Encourage one another with these words from Paul. So little to go on but a real thing.

I am asking you for the third time to explain who believed in the pretribulation rapture before John Nelson Darby. You cannot merely cite Scripture when untold billions of Christians, reading the same Scriptures, never believed that such a thing was in the Scriptures. It is completely unattested in the Church Fathers, the Doctors of the Church, the Creeds, even the Reformers that @ViaCrucis holds in higher esteem than I.

Can you produce one person, even a heresiarch, that taught a pretribulation rapture before Darby? If you cannot, then why should anyone believe in such a novelty?

Why do you think God will "protect his people with a rapture?"

God did not protect the first-century Christians from beheading, stoning, being lit on fire and used as human torches, crucifixion, and other forms of torture and death.

Where in scripture do you get your belief in a "rapture?"

The only "meeting together in the air" that I see in scripture is at Jesus' second coming, when he comes to earth accompanied by the newly resurrected saints who had previously passed away.

Jesus' second coming is at the end of time:

1 Thessalonians 4:15-17
Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. 14 For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. 15 According to the Lord’s word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. 16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.

1 Corinthians 15:50-54
I declare to you, brothers and sisters, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. 51 Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— 52 in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 53 For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. 54 When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.”

Jim456c, Humbly I submit God wants us to learn about Him, His kingdom, who we are In Christ, our purpose, etc..
God speaks to us through His word, the Bible. Jesus said that the Holy Spirit shall lead us into all truth. Being a born again Christian isn't an easy journey. The more we learn about God, ourselves and others, the better we are able to serve God and others with the love of Christ.

May God, Mightily bless you and your loved ones, In Jesus's Name!

Please reread where I said:

Citing Paul means nothing when what Paul means is exactly what we are disputing. Therefore, you must prove that Paul means what you say he means. Can you cite anybody prior to John Nelson Darby who read Paul as teaching a pretribulation rapture?

The problem, again, is that the Bible doesn't mention this "rapture" you think it does.

I tell you what, go back to 1 Thessalonians 4. I want you to pay close and careful attention.

Notice what it doesn't say there? It doesn't say that anyone goes up into heaven.

You won't find anything in the Bible that says Christians will, en masse, be transported into heaven before some catastrophic period of tribulation.

Go ahead, try to prove me wrong. I guarantee you that every passage you think supports this idea, doesn't actually say what you think it does.

Find an explicit "people are taken directly into heaven before tribulation" mention anywhere in the Bible. You can't find it. It's not there.

Gonna quote and concur on the sentiment herein expressed. I feel a bit bad for turning this into a thread disputing the rapture as a doctrine when I think the sentiment OP is expressing goes beyond that. God created us to know, love, and serve Him here, and then be happy with Him in Heaven. The hard work of our sanctification is here, on Earth--Heaven is the goal.
