The World in Ten Years

I want to hear what major world events people think will happen over the next ten years. Or a bit longer than ten years if it's major enough.

Will the Iran War spiral into a world war? Or will nothing come of it?

Will China finally have a duel with the US? Or will they trade places peacefully?

Will the US face civil war? Or will the next elections pass by peacefully?

Is the increase in natural disasters and man-made political disasters we're facing actually God's warning? That soon enough all of these world leaders, who have corrupted the land with their crimes and their lies, as well as their loyal followers, will clash and kill each other in a world war? And that this is God's wrath? Then those who survive are will be the decent people, and they will build a clean world order, and that this is God's mercy?

Or do you think everything I just suggested is wrong? Nothing will happen and life will go on as normal? Or will something I didn't mention happen?

This is going to be from a Christian perspective, based on Bible prophecy.

I believe Jesus could come in the next ten years or less, which will bring an end to all of our problems.

Jesus prophesied deception, wars, famines, pestilences and earthquakes in Matthew 24. These are to continue to happen in frequency and intensity (the beginning of sorrows; like birth pangs) until the end.

Whether or not there is a world war doesn't matter (I don't believe there will be, but even if there is...). According to prophecy there has to be two major powers in place that bring in false worship (see Revelation 13). The United States will retain its power until the end and will bring in false worship and the mark of the beast. In this I am confident that nothing major will happen to the United States.

All wickedness will be dealt with according to God's timeline, not ours; not by men, but by God, at a time He has chosen.

The only peaceful time I see in our future is when Jesus returns. The thousand year reign will be peaceful, but afterward judgment of the wicked takes place. Once judgment is executed and the wicked perish, the new heaven and new earth will be a place of eternal peace.

I would defer to Bible prophecy, as it has been right so far.

I have no clear idea. From a Christian perspective, I imagine what will happen in the next 10 years will be some general semblance of wherever it is we are at in the symbolic timeline of the book of Revelation.

For a more nuanced analysis, I suppose I could dredge up a few much more interesting comments of speculated prognostication, but to think about and generate those comments would require I interrupt my reading of the following book in order to think about it all more deeply. And I just don't have that kind of time......................

I have not read that one (so this is probably completely unrelated) but I'm in Camus camp, resistance is a meaning all of itself.

I've always found Camus' take on life to be a bit absurd. But then again, what do I know?

You probably know more than I and most at least of the philosophical context. I actually feel that imagining Sisyphus as happy is meaning-creating. As is the revolt itself.

A pun was definitely intended, although I won't say that I know more about Camus than you.

I, too, would like to think of Sisyphus as happy, but the Passive Pessimist within me refuses to allow that view to come to be no matter how much I may push against the idea.

I suspect there is a wider philosophical discussion about different kinds of pessimists. I have only read about Schopenhauer, as in an overview not his own texts (who I would see as passive pessimist).

This was a nice little distraction.

Oh, I don't have too much to say about my own pessimism other than that it's neurotically induced by my own general belief in the book of Revelation and a generic understanding of the field of Futures Studies. No Schopenhauer or Camus is needed, even if they do help pessimism along from another philosophical angle.

In sum, we all know that A.I. and all that it can entail is here to stay, regardless of which political party is in power. With that mind, we might as well settle in for the long haul since there's not much we can do about it, even if it's just the next 10 years we're focusing on in this thread.

Specifying a time period is probably inviting failure but looking at the root belief systems of various actors and assessing their long term viability is something that is possible. So regimes that are founded on the power of one man are likely to have major upheavals after that man dies. Regimes that are not founded on an ideology that has any lasting credibility or theological roots will not last and will fall more quickly than ones where there is a more established degree of religious credibility. Regimes prone to overconfidence are likely to make some colossal mistakes that push them into a downward trajectory. You can see cultures where there is a broad base of free human souls acting in creative and loving ways and cultures that are merely selfish and ultimately doomed to atomisation and failure.

So some of the key questions I am asking are:

1) What happens in Russia when Putin dies?
2) Will China invade Taiwan - something that could make or break the Communist regime depending on whether they succeed or not? How will China handle its first big recession? How will its increasingly well informed and globalized populace handle the hollowness of Communist ideology during a major crisis?
3) Will post Trump America fall ever further into debt and division or find a way back from the brink?
4) Will the USA patch things up with its allies after Trump or descend even more deeply into isolationism?
5) Will there be a Christian revival in Europe accompanied by a new spirit of enterprise? Without deep change I think the continent is doomed to a slow decline.
6) Which countries will benefit or be harmed most from climate change and more extreme weather events?
7) How will the persecution of the growing church in India, China and Iran work out? Will the injustice of these things delegitimize these regimes in the eyes of the broader populace or be compounded in unsustainably extreme regimes - generating deep civil strife and turmoil?
8) Will SpaceX change the world economy by commercialising space or will this prove to be mere pie in the sky?
9) How will the world rebalance when they realize that AI does not have and never will have the advantages of a human soul?
10) How will England winning the world cup change its relationship with the rest of the world? ;-)

While we are not told the time for the world to end it is hard to imagine that it won't happen in the next century. I think A.I. and robotics will greatly change the United States.

Britain has had food insecurity since the Victorian era, as its population has exceeded its domestic production since then. The situation is more extreme now but the key factor here is freedom of trade. If the seas remain open no one will notice if domestic agricultural production collapses. Also the combo of thunderstorms and hot weather can work for some crops. I think this will be resolved by a combination of technology and crises as British businesses respond to higher food prices. One idea that could become commercial would be stacked skyscraper market gardens in city centers for example. Another key factor here is water management - privatization has proven a disaster. Things could be done to bring Scottish and Welsh water into a national grid also.

It's the opposite. The nations unite as a final rebellion against God. You see this in pushes for globalism.

I don't know if this will happen in 10 years. But the human heart will stay the same.

The two biggest risks are;

1) An aging Putin becomes increasingly frustrated at the stalemate in Ukraine and begins losing his grip on power at home, forcing him to expand the conflict into NATO territory.

2) China engages with Taiwan. The fallout isn't entirely clear with this though. Taiwan plays a vital role in the global economy, especially US tech firms, so it would be a coin flip between the US showing force or accepting Taiwan as collateral damage so long as their supply chain isn't interrupted for too long and they continue their dealings with China.

The other big risk I see for Europe, though probably more than 10 years, is civil war between native Europeans and the millions of so-called 'asylum seekers' that have caused chaos across the continent. People are already fed up and politics is skewing right in most countries, so when policy fails, which it almost certainly will, people will take it into their own hands.

I don't have a crystal ball either but some of my thoughts, not necessarily limited to ten years, are -

1. A regional war involving Australia.
2. A limited nuclear war between two Asian powers.
3. An all out nuclear war with a surprise attack by one major power.
4. We'll learn to teleport as God will drive us off the planet.
5. Europe will go Moslem for reasons of oil supply.
6. The Vatican will move to South America.

None of them are what might be called positive, but that's the way I think due to certain things I've experienced in my own life.
