  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

A Scientific American editorial suggesting male athletic advantages are mostly cultural was 100% incorrect, in fact it is 100% biological fact and a scientist like Neil deGrasse Tyson knows this. And he and many other intelligent people are to afraid of the backlash to admit it. I would say that is one of the reason's scientist everywere are losing respect, cause there so afraid of political backlash that they will ignore scientific fact, basically there cowards and know one respects that. I trust science, just not scientist who are too afraid to voice scientific fact because of political backlash.

Dr. Tyson's video doesn't mention gender at all, so I don't see how the above paragraph relates to the video.

The video itself makes an excellent point, however. If we cut funding to scientific research, we will lose our scientists and science grad students to other countries that are willing to fund their research. In the 20th century, there was a "brain drain" from other countries to the US, as international scientists came to the US and stayed. Dr. Tyson is now seeing a brain drain in the other direction, and he hopes we will stop it. As a scientist, he says, he's happy for scientific discoveries to be made anywhere in the world, because all of it advances the science. But as an American, he would enjoy seeing the US as a place where major scientific discoveries are still made.
