  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Will Trump's resounding and definitive win cause Democrats to reflect?

So let me get this straight. Trump entered the conflict with Iran in order to raise the price of gas and groceries, hurt the stock market and tank his approval ratings for no reason at all.

Am I with you so far?
Don't be obtuse.
Or was there a sense of urgency involved? That action needed to be taken.
I won't discount the possibility that someone told Trump that there was a need for urgent action or otherwise implied it, but the evidence that we have available to us suggests that there was not.

The fact that operation Rising Lion occurred at all proves Israeli intelligence saw Iran as posing an imminent threat to their existence.

Or maybe Netanyahu created the necessity, despite an absence of evidence.

FACT FOCUS: Netanyahu’s claims about Iran’s nuclear program run counter to public evidence

[Netanyahu's] rhetoric has escalated since the U.S. and Iran reached an interim peace deal this month, and as Netanyahu faces elections later this year.

From the article: —

"the U.S. restored and expanded crippling sanctions on Iran that had been lifted under it. Iran responded by ramping up enrichment to 60%, a short, technical step from weapons-grade"

No other country in the world enriched uranium to this point to only use it for civilian power generation.

I guess Trump shouldn't have ripped up the JCPOA, which limited Iran's enrichment to under 4%.

Answer my question.
No. I already told you why I think Trump attacked Iran.
The fact that operation Rising Lion occurred at all proves Israeli intelligence saw Iran as posing an imminent threat to their existence.
It does not. A country can engage in military action for many reasons beyond countering an imminent threat to their existence.

I'm not sure what post prompted your comment as you don't quote anything, but https://www.merriam-webster.com/thesaurus/obliterate lists decimate as a synonym for obliterate.
The section is called synonyms and similar words. "Decimate" means to destroy one tenth of. "Obliterate" means to destroy completely. Both are words referring to destruction, and therefore similar, but they are not synonymous.

The "destroy one tenth of" was the historical meaning, but modern usage has expanded beyond that. That said, to be fair, decimate is still normally intended to mean destroying a large portion of something, but generally not complete destruction as obliterate does. Nevertheless, various thesauruses will list obliterate if you look up decimate, and vice versa.

And a hindrance to Israel’s desire to attack Hezbollah in Lebanon, yes.
Well spotted!

Then why did Israel preemptively attack Iran for 12 days in operation Rising Lion?
As punishment for supporting Hamas and Hezbollah and to achieve hegemony in the region - which it is still fighting for. Israel continues to nuke the negotiations between the US and Iran.

because if they do not secure hegemony in that region, it poses an existential threat to their existance.

Well it's been a slice. Ciao dah-lings.

So let me get this straight. Trump entered the conflict with Iran in order to raise the price of gas and groceries, hurt the stock market and tank his approval ratings for no reason at all.
No, Trump has talked about war with Iran for years, mostly in the context of accusing his opponents of wanting the war for national political reasons (as opposed to international politics). That the war raised the price of gas and groceries, hurt the stock market and tanked his approval ratings were apparently unforeseen by him consequences, not the motivation - so, no, you did not get that straight.
Am I with you so far?
Not even close.
Or was there a sense of urgency involved? That action needed to be taken.
Netanyahu and the Israeli lobby, including AIPAC, convinced him of the urgency. He apparently thought it would be an easy victory, like the action against Venezuela and that it would boost his ratings leading into the midterms.
because if they do not secure hegemony in that region, it poses an existential threat to their existance.
Convincing Trump to do the dirty work was a boon to them.
Well it's been a slice. Ciao dah-lings.
Ciao, bello.

Is that why gas was at record highs under Biden
This is just FUNNY!

Biden didn't cause the pandemic.
The pandemic meant we had to stay home, and not drive to work or take that holiday.
Oil demand dropped 25% - and the price crashed as well. As an old peak oil activist, I was amazed to read that sometimes ships PAID others to take their oil away to clean up the lines of supply, service a ship, get rid of the logjam, etc!
But then the whole industry was so disrupted by the pandemic that when the vaccines finally arrived and the economy started again, the industry could not open the taps to full. The price rose.

None of that was Biden's fault.
But who promised they would never get into a 'forever war' in the Middle East?
Who said such adventures were for losers?
Who was warned that Iran could stomp on the neck of the world's economic airways - the Strait of Hormuz?
And who went and started a war with Iran anyway, because Bibi said "2 weeks" again? (t's been his chant for decades now.)
Trump.

Today's oil prices are demonstrably, unarguably Trump's fault.

And he's stuck. Sure, America's fearsome war machine smashed up Iran's military. So what?

He's taught the Iranian Regime that military might is not their real weapon. Their geology is! They can build their $20,000 Shahid drones in sheds and tunnels and bunkers scattered across the country. Just like Ukraine is doing.

Any time they want, they can fire one at an oil tanker.

Any time they want, they can crush the airways of the global economy. Those Shahid drones are their heel on our economic airways!

You might try Trump's tactic of chanting "Biden Biden BIDEN!" like Jan Brady chanting "Marcia! Marcia! Marcia!"
But Biden's got nothing to do with it.

The world's economy is chanting "I can't breathe" - and we know who to blame.
Trump has betrayed us all again.

The ultimate irony? After humiliating himself by yelling at Zelensky in the Oval Office, Trump now needs Ukranian drone experts! Otherwise America is stuck spending a million dollars per missile to shoot down a $20,000 drone.

The whole Trump regime would make me laugh, if this situation were not so serious.
