  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How the Right promotes socialism

Well, if you’ll read my OP, I never said socialism was good. I said the way that the right has demonized socialism by tagging it to major concerns of younger adults has become a very effective method of promoting socialism to them. And, it seems to me, that the companion message given to the ‘that’s socialism’ accusation, is the corresponding accusation ‘that’s lazy’ or ‘that’s irresponsible’ or ‘that’s selfish’ or ‘that’s hedonistic’ or ’that’s unAmerican’. So it doesn’t go over well.
So naming what is happening is now seen as wrong. I get that people with such ideas will be emboldened when they are exposed for what they are. This is the nature of such ideology in that its based on a power struggle. But thats going to happen anyway. They see everything as a power struggle against the current system.
Instead of wasting time mocking young Americans,
I think this is part of the problem. Naming what is happening is not mocking. That its taken as mocking shows that no matter what is said it will be taken the wrong way as part of defending such ideology. Its part of the ideologies tactic to deflect the truth.
I think the GOP would do well to offer them something they would quickly recognize as valuable.
What could the GOP offer that is valuable. If the GOP is siding with a free democracy and the current system then there is an ideological divide politically that cannot be overcome. There will be nothing of value to socialist.
The problem with GOP motivating us with fear and loathing, powerful as it is, it must have targets who have no power to defend themselves…but eventually they do. Which as you may observe, is happening. There is a tipping point where the growing reaction to ‘fear and loathing’ makes those exploited by it even more fearful and disapproving. Leading to increasingly irrational policies…as we can well observe. And, in the end, collapse. Sometimes for the better. Sometimes worse. Fingers crossed.
I am not sure what you are saying. That everyone should keep quiet and not push radicals to be more radical. I think they are already radical. Is not the nature of politics always been that parties expose each others policies and how they don't work.

Thanks for answering my question. I see now there’s no difference between us other than how we define a word. Consequently I see how you perceive me ‘taking a worldview’ and forcing it on everything’. Actually we just have different definitions for the same thing…transcendence. You claim it to be ‘objective’. I claim it to be ‘subjective’. We both mean the same thing. We have a transcendent faith in Christ.
Which is a transcendent truth to Christians. Not a subjective belief that could be wrong. It is only the world that makes Christianity a subjective belief because they believe all belief is unreal and a figment of the imagination.

Socialist do not believe in God or gods. This is a human made idea about creating a world kingdom and not Gods kingdom. Thats the main reason I think most Christians reject socialism.

But the values of socialism such as equality and fairness for all without class is a Christian value. Just as Paul said there is neither slave or master. All are equal in Christ spiritually. Socialism takes this truth and makes it a world ideology. Like all (isms).

I’m sorry I wasn’t more clear. I’m not saying that everyone should keep quiet. I’m saying that those affected by this fear and loathing will keep getting pushed farther and farther into fear and loathing. Until rationality is lost. And unwise decisions are made. It goes like this…”socialism, Democrats, liberals…those words mean communism, evil, immorality, anti-Americanism, dangerous beliefs, selfish motives, reckless policies that will destroy our country, radicals imposing their extremes on good Americans…danger, danger, danger…what you fear is real. What you dislike is going to get you. You must heed us before it’s too late.” That’s the politics of fear and loathing. It works. That which is real, that which makes you a child of God is put in the back seat, while fear and loathing is in the driver’s seat. You lose sight of the fact that these terrible socialists and Democrats would mostly be glad to work hand in hand with you to make the country better. Just because you don’t believe that doesn’t make it false.

Have you ever considered that Genesis 1:17 is a transcendent truth, a reality: “of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall die.” The knowledge of good and evil. It makes us think: “I know what is evil. I know what is good. I know these things. You can’t convince me otherwise.” Isn’t that the manifestation of original sin? I know I fall victim to that. And I know many, or even all of us do. And it’s my impression, that though the Bible can wake us up to that sin, the Bible can also be used to buttress our certainty that we know right from wrong.

Yes I agree and the bible repeats this truth when it says that we all know of Gods laws because our conscience condemns us when we do wrong. So we are without excuse. Even before the law was given. It has been known from the garden.

Satans biggest lie is to convince people that there is no truth in this and we are not sinners. Even making out that sin is good. That is done by using the worlds ideas about what is right and wrong. We have heard the rationalisations about alternative versions of right and wrong. Today morality is made out to be what humans say is truth rather than Gods word.

All these alternative ideas about how humans and the world should be ordered are second best alternatives. They miss the mark.

I think the political has become the personal. So political ideologies are now the worlds version of sin and the law and the gospel.

Fundementally its now a spiritual battle and not just politics or new age versions of morality. Or that there is no sin and the world can create a new order that will overcome sin.

Satans biggest deception is that there is no God or sin and there is no need for redemption and that we are the gods of our own salvation.

I can appreciate that's how you see it. Certainly one of his deceptions. I would not ask you to change.
I believe Satan’s biggest deception is getting us to see sin where there isn’t any. And uses that to distract us and misdirect us away from counteracting the real sins harming and destroying the lives of innocent people.

That we can agree on. That in one way or another satan seeks to deceieve people from the truth of Christs gospel. Seek first the gospel of Christ and all else will follow.

Do you know how long the use of "socialism" as a scare word has been around??? Look at this from Harry Truman: ""Socialism is a scare word they have hurled at every advance the people have made in the last 20 years. Socialism is what they called public power. Socialism is what they called Social Security... Socialism is their name for almost anything that helps all the people."
