God’s Choice of His Elect is Unconditional and Eternal
The Scriptures teach that salvation is not dependent upon the choice of man, but rather upon the choice of God. God chose certain individuals in Christ BEFORE the foundation of the world, based solely upon His own good pleasure.
(Eph 1:4-5) According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: {5} Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,
Christ plainly told His disciples:
(John 15:16) Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.
So, contrary to today’s popular theology, the choice is not man’s, the choice is God’s; and that choice was made before the world was. That choice was made without reference to anything of merit found in or "foreseen" in the creature.
(Rom 9:11-13) (For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth
{12} It was said unto her, The elder shall serve the younger. {13} As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.
(2 Th 2:13) But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth: cc Landmark Independent Baptist Church - Sovereign Grace
