Washington Parade Called Off--But Some Still Marched

Patriot Front was founded in 2017, after the deadly Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia. The group promotes an “ultra-nationalist ideology” that focuses on creating a “white ethnostate in the United States,” with the ultimate goal of reshaping American society to “align with their vision of racial and cultural homogeneity,” according to the George Washington University Program on Extremism.

The photo, taken on July 4 by Reuters photographer Cheney Orr, depicts a Black woman sitting on a Washington Metro train while surrounded by members of the Patriot Front, a white nationalist group.

I can see how this could be confusing. You could read the last line as contradicting the first line:

Or you could read the last line as contradicting the one it follows, the closer one:

From the context and the posts that followed, it is the second interpretation that is the correct one: the poster did not accuse you of supporting them (Nobody has been supporting them) but of not condemning them - which is your right.

I thought they meant Vikings as their white, pre-Columbian ancestors - but I didn't give it that much thought. A certain faction don't even consider the Columbian Europeans, the Spanish and Italians, as altogether white, anyhow.

I was playing word games with it. Ones might claim they are superior because they are "white". But those masks are white, and they aren't, then. So, they aren't even white, anyway, really, outwardly. Plus, as you understand, there is the concern about the color of their souls.

I personally like to actually talk with someone, so I can hear *why* that person believes what the person believes. Let each one speak for one's own self, instead of assuming the same thing about all members of some group. I would want to hear "why" and not only "what".

Of course, this could take some time

There are occasions when someone says something idiotic when one can just ignore it. On other occasions they'll call you out incorrectly for something they claim that you did and if it's a thread with a lot of posts then you have to correct it because not everyone will have been following the thread.

And then we'll have situations where they'll make further posts on the same matter which are indeed a waste of bandwidth and likewise a waste of my time. At which point I would suggest that we need a icon available which effectively means 'I read what you wrote, because it was addressed to me, but it was a waste of time for both you and me in continuing to repeat and complain about matters which have already been explained to you'.

The full acronym would be too long: IRWYWBIWATMBIWAWOTFBYAMICTRACAMWHABETY. So I'll just use WOT.

I've a feeling I'll be using it later.

Expressing oneself in a manner that successfully conveys one’s thoughts upon a matter in “print”, is an art and many people cannot get beyond “paint-by-numbers” or finger-painting.

My own posts can be cryptic, ‘tis true!; but I also have the wherewithal to precisely and definitively say what I mean, when I choose to do so*.

When the woman’s brother first saw the photo, he zoomed in on the only uncovered face.

In the photo, a Black woman sits alone on a seat inside a Metro train on July 4 looking in the direction of the camera. Around her in the crowded car are masked members of Patriot Front, a white-supremacist group that was seen marching by the hundreds through D.C. that morning.

When the woman’s brother, Paul Bowlding, saw it on Instagram that day, he recognized the woman as his older sister: Bernita Bowlding, a 33-year-old mother of two.

As the photo of her circulated, hours passed without family members hearing from her. Paul Bowlding said he grew worried because his sister has struggled for years with mental illnesses.

On Monday, some social media posts released the woman’s identity and criticized her over a previous arrest. Court records show that charge was later dismissed.

Paul Bowlding said he was worried about his sister becoming a target. He said her past struggles, including that previous arrest, happened when she was in a mental health crisis.

Her mother told The Post on Monday that her daughter lost her phone, and that the family usually has to wait until she calls or stops by to communicate with her.

After an anxious Saturday, Paul Bowlding said he and his family were relieved when his sister showed up at her mother’s house Sunday morning, nearly a day after the train ride. Their mother said the photo did not come up in their conversation.

Paul Bowlding said his sister is quiet and tough, yet kindhearted. “One of the amazing ones,” he said. He said he sees her strength in the photo. “I do see her as a role model of letting people know … ‘It’s going to be okay because God got us.’”
