  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What I don't understand is how people can waste time and energy speculating in such detail about things that really have no relevance to following Christ today. And then arguing with others with different speculations.
Eschatology is the study of the end times.

Agreed.

Daniel 9:27 says NOTHING about "the final 7 years of this age." It neither has, nor indicates at all, that this period takes place "at the time of the end," as other passages in Daniel do.
It mentions the abomination of desolation which Jesus says is future (Matt 24:15). Dan 9:24's 70 weeks is to 'end the transgression' - the transgression of the abomination in the 'holy place'.

Not the same earthquakes at all.
The one on Gog and his army, is in the Land of Israel. The one at the Sixth Seal is worldwide and is better described as tectonic plate movement.
As Deuteronomy 32:22 .......fire will strike the foundations of the mountains.

Your ideas of conflating the Seals, Trumpets and Bowls, let alone the G/M attack with the Sixth Seal, is not tenable and just scrambles the Prophesies.
The 6th Seal announces the arrival of the day of the Lord's wrath. The arriving wrath clearly is the start of the Trumpets.

I don't conflate the Seals, Trumpets, or Bowls. In general, they are all sequential.

False accusation.

Bottom line is that you cannot explain why the preposition is inexplicably omitted in most but not all translations. That lamed has a qametz vowel point, meaning that it literally reads "to the [setting up/placing]." So not just one but two words are left out. Furthermore, there is no heh/"the" before the phrase "abomination of desolation." Most versions add one in. So standard translations violate the Hebrew in three separate ways.

Why? As Tevye explained: "Tradition!" One dating back to Hippolytus and other early Church Fathers, tradition regarding the timing of 'the Antichrist.' It is naive to believe that historical Church tradition and doctrine has not influenced the views of translators.

Here's another way for you to look at it. You say that the abomination of desolation begins at the end of the 1,290 days, which leave 45 left to close out the 1,335 before the Lord returns, as quoted below.

The AD will be set up at the end of the 1290 days/beginning of the 45 days, just as the literal reading of Daniel 12:11 prophesies. (Understanding "Jesus's return" here to be His Parousia at/right after the 45 days.)

Corresponding to the number of days between 21 Nisan, when the Israelites passed through the Red Sea, up unto the descent of YHWH upon Mount Sinai on Sivan 6: 45 days. That period was the Great Tribulation type and shadow for the nation of Israel, when they were likewise "tested/tried." Ex.15:25, 17:1-7; Deut. 8:16

If what you're saying is true then it would fall in line with the rest of Scripture, but it doesn't. In my response to Douggg, I demonstrated (by connecting patterned language) that the abomination of desolation, the man of lawlessness, and the little horn are all one-in-the-same, as shown below:

Abomination of Desolation
Man of Lawlessness
Little Horn in Daniel 7
Little Horn in Daniel 8
"He will confirm a covenant with many for one ‘seven.’ In the middle of the ‘seven’ he will put an end to sacrifice and offering. And at the temple he will set up an abomination that causes desolation, until the end that is decreed is poured out on him." - Daniel 9:27
"Don’t let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction. He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God’s temple, proclaiming himself to be God." - 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4
“While I was thinking about the horns, there before me was another horn, a little one, which came up among them; and three of the first horns were uprooted before it. This horn had eyes like the eyes of a human being and a mouth that spoke boastfully... I also wanted to know about the... other horn that came up, before which three of them fell—the horn that looked more imposing than the others and that had eyes and a mouth that spoke boastfully. As I watched, this horn was waging war against the holy people and defeating them, until the Ancient of Days came and pronounced judgment in favor of the holy people of the Most High, and the time came when they possessed the kingdom. “He gave me this explanation: ...different from the earlier ones; he will subdue three kings. He will speak against the Most High and oppress his holy people and try to change the set times and the laws. The holy people will be delivered into his hands for a time, times and half a time. - Daniel 7:8, 20-22a, 23a, 24b-25
The goat became very great, but at the height of its power the large horn was broken off, and in its place four prominent horns grew up toward the four winds of heaven. Out of one of them came another horn, which started small but grew in power to the south and to the east and toward the Beautiful Land. It grew until it reached the host of the heavens, and it threw some of the starry host down to the earth and trampled on them. It set itself up to be as great as the commander of the army of the Lord; it took away the daily sacrifice from the Lord, and his sanctuary was thrown down. Because of rebellion, the Lord’s people and the daily sacrifice were given over to it. It prospered in everything it did, and truth was thrown to the ground. - Daniel 8:8-12

Just like in Daniel 9:27, we see that the little horn will put an end to the daily sacrifice, and that it, too, will be set up. There's no denying that the little horn in Daniel 8 is the same little horn in Daniel 7. As a result, we can understand that from the time it set itself up to the time the Lord comes back must be 1,260 days (i.e., a time, times, and half a time). The only way this can happen is if it fits within the 1,290 day period, as there's no way to fit 1,260 days into 45 days.

We can be sure that this is true because the little horn takes away the daily sacrifice, which is the same thing the ominous figure mentioned in Daniel 9:27 does. Similarly, in Daniel 8 we see that the little horn "set itself up," confirming that it's one-in-the-same with the abomination of desolation.

Because of this, we can understand that the text in Daniel 12:11, as translated by Robert Young, isn't meant to be understood in the literal sense as he wrote it.

Please stop trying to impose on me your beliefs on how you think my chart look or what it should include. It was made like this for a specific purpose, just because you can't grasp that doesn't mean I need to change it to accommodate you.
The Dan 7 Little Horn is the one who confirms the covenant. The Dan 8 Little Horn is a different person.

Dan 7:11Then I kept watching because of the arrogant words the horn was speaking. As I continued to watch, the beast was slain, and its body was destroyed and thrown into the blazing fire. 12As for the rest of the beasts, their dominion was removed, but they were granted an extension of life for a season and a time.

The Dan 7 Little Horn is the Rev 10 Mighty Angel who has control of the saints for the 1260 days of the 2 witnesses. (same as Dan 12:7).

After the Dan 7 Little Horn is killed at the 7th Trumpet, the 'rest of the beasts' are given an extension. The 'rest of the beasts' after the 4th Beast is killed are: the lion, bear, and leopard = the same beasts as the Beast from the sea in Rev 13. The Dan 8 Little Horn is presumably this ruler of the beast from the sea.

I do not see studying the Bible Prophesies, as a waste of time.
At the Judgment, what will God say to those pastors and people who ignore the large amount of Prophetic scripture?

God has made it difficult to understand, in fact He has hidden the truths from those who are wise and learned. Matthew 11:25-26
We must clear our minds of any of mans teachings and plainly read the Words about what God has planned for our future. For example; nowhere is it said that we Christians will be taken up to heaven. We have the Lords work to do here on earth, escapism is not an option. Matthew 28:19-20

Therefore, we who are alive today may well experience the end times and be honoured to see Jesus Return in glory.
Getting there will be much easier for us; being prepared with the knowledge of what must happen before the glorious Day.
I know I am disrupting your debate but all we need is knowledge of Jesus and sharing his love. Eschatology may be fun speculation but what will be, will be with or without our foreknowledge or beliefs about it. Ok, I am done. Just be ready all the time.

Do you think that we are not meant to have an understanding of eschatology despite the Bible containing a good amount of it? Why are so many prophecies written in scripture if we are not intended to study and understand them? Yes, being ready all the time is a the right approach from a personal standpoint, but there is more to glean from eschatology than just that. A study of eschatology helps to better understand things like who Jesus/God is, what His plans are for each of us and for the world, and how to be alert and ready for whatever may come and to ultimately be ready for Christ's return when we will all stand before Him to give an account of ourselves. I think that's pretty important.

It mentions the abomination of desolation which Jesus says is future (Matt 24:15). Dan 9:24's 70 weeks is to 'end the transgression' - the transgression of the abomination in the 'holy place'.
You are misinformed. The Hebrew text of the verse does NOT use the phrase "abomination of desolation." That phrase, to which Jesus referred, when used prophetically in Daniel about the End Times, is ONLY found in Daniel 12:11.

Regarding the pesha/rebellion/transgression/apostasy, which likewise has nothing to do with the End Times:

לְכַלֵּא/in order to utterly restrain/restrict [Piel verb stem (intensive) Infinitive Construct; with prefix ל: “in order to, for the purpose of”] הַפֶּשַׁע/the rebellion/transgression/apostasy [ה: prefix meaning “the”]…

“…(in order) to utterly restrain/restrict the rebellion/transgression/apostasy…”

Comment: כלא does not mean “finish,” despite what many translations say. (That is the meaning of the similar Hebrew word כלה.) Also, “the rebellion/transgression/apostasy” is speaking of a specific revolt against authority, not merely sin/transgression in general; in that case, the prefix ה/“the” would not be used.

The specific rebellion/פשע being referred to is the culminating apostasy of the Jewish nationʼs priesthood and people, the פשע/pesha originally spoken of in Daniel 8:12, 13, 23. That pesha was the focus of Danielʼs “vision in the beginning” (9:21), for which Gabriel originally had been sent to him to explain. 8:16 In Daniel 9, Gabriel has returned “to make you skillful of understanding…[of] the vision” of Daniel 8. 9:22-23

This transgression of the priesthood took place when Syrian King Antiochus Epiphanes, after being bribed, removed Onias III, the pious High Priest over the Jewish people, and installed his apostatizing brother Jason in the latter 170s B.C. Jason promoted Greek religious and social customs. See Antiochus Ephiphanes and the End Times, Part 1. 1 Maccabees 2:15 calls the subsequent debasement of the priesthood, Temple, and people “the apostasy” [apostasia]. Continuing corruptions of the priesthood, including bribes, took place during the later time of Roman rule. Jesus condemned these things, and prophesied the desolation of the religious establishment and the destruction of Jerusalem and Temple because of it. Matt. 23, esp. vs. 35-39.

Just like in Daniel 9:27, we see that the little horn will put an end to the daily sacrifice, and that it, too, will be set up.
Daniel 9:27 says nothing at all about setting up a little horn or an abomination of desolation. Again, if you can't comprehend the Hebrew text, you can only parrot the false translations and doctrines of others.

There's no denying that the little horn in Daniel 8 is the same little horn in Daniel 7.
I deny it, because it isn't true. If you are a serious student of the Scriptures, the following articles examine and explain this issue in detail:

Eschatology may be fun speculation but what will be, will be with or without our foreknowledge or beliefs about it.
Luke 11:26 And as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man: 27 They ate, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. 28 Likewise as it was also in the days of Lot: They ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built; 29 but on the day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. 30 Even so will it be in the day when the Son of Man is revealed.

Both Lot and Noah were forewarned of when the judgments of their day were to take place. Likewise, the Israelites at Mount Sinai were given 3 days notice of when YHWH would appear.

Amos 3:7 Surely the Lord GOD does nothing,
Unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets.

Just look at this thread. What good has come from it?
At least; discussions of scripture does some good.
You have come here to look at Eschatology, most Christians totally avoid the end time Prophesies.

We are told why there is so much disagreement on what will happen in our future. Isaiah 29:9-12, says how people who believe false theories will be locked into them.
It isn’t very pleasant to think that the Lord can control our thinking. It brings free will into question, but who are we? He is the Creator.

Someone made the comment that it seems as though God is playing something like a video game; setting up situations and watching the outcomes. Job 34:21-22, Psalms 11:4, +
But of course, God cannot give the game away, all the non-Christian peoples must not know His plans and even with the so called Christians, it is estimated that there may be only 2% who are honestly faithful. The other 98% follow false doctrines and cults or just simply warm a pew for an hour or so a week, the rest of the time they lie about anything, steal if the opportunity offers, commit adultery, etc, etc.

So what can we do?
At least, if you belong to this forum you are making an effort to gain understanding of the end times. However, everywhere around us, ideas and theories are put forward that have no sound scriptural basis. Outdated and biased translations are a serious handicap. One example is in Luke 21:36; ‘escape all these things’, more correctly translated is; ‘to pass safely through all that is to come’, the Revised English Bible, so as not to be a contradiction of verse 35.

Of course belief in God and the Lord Jesus, true repentance of sins and fervent prayers are essential to become right with God.

From my studies of prophecy, I firmly believe that very soon there will be an event of a similar magnitude to the great flood of Noah’s time. This time, many of the world’s population will survive. To be among the survivors we should heed the warnings, be aware of what will happen and be prepared for it. But our main hope is to have absolute trust in the Lord’s salvation and His promises of protection. Isaiah 30:15, Isaiah 41:15, Zechariah 9:15-16, 1 Peter 1:21, +

Jesus condemned these things, and prophesied the desolation of the religious establishment and the destruction of Jerusalem and Temple because of it. Matt. 23, esp. vs. 35-39.
Matt 24:15's abomination in Greek is: bdelygma tes eremoseos ('abomination of desolation')

Dan 9:27's abomination in Hebrew is: siqqusim mesomem (Noun abomination, H8251, followed by Verb desolating, H8074)

Dan 11:31's abomination in Hebrew is: has-siqqus mesowmem (Noun abomination, H8251, followed by Verb desolating, H8074)

Dan 12:11's abomination in Hebrew is: siqqus somem (Noun abomination, H8251, followed by Verb desolating, H8074)

And Daniel 8 says it is explicitly about the end times:
17As he came near to where I stood, I was terrified and fell facedown. “Son of man,” he said to me, “understand that the vision concerns the time of the end.”
18While he was speaking with me, I fell into a deep sleep, with my face to the ground.
Then he touched me, helped me to my feet, 19and said, “Behold, I will make known to you what will happen in the latter time of wrath, because it concerns the appointed time of the end. [...] 26The vision of the evenings and the mornings that has been spoken is true. Now you must seal up the vision, for it concerns the distant future.”
So, yes, you are correct to tie Daniel 9:21's mention of the prior vision (which is to say, Daniel 8). Daniel 8 is explicitly about the end times and Dan 9 is talking about the transgression in the end times that will take 70 weeks in order to restore the sanctuary.

Again, this is why the time amounts in Revelation are Rev 9:5's 5 months (150 days) + Rev 9:15's hour, day, month, year (.25 + 1 + 30 + 365.25) + Rev 11:3's 1260 days + Rev 11:11's 3.5 days + 70 Weeks to 'finish the transgression'.

150 + 396.5 + 1260 + 3.5 + 490 = 2300 days

Do you really think that is a coincidence?

Dan 9:27's abomination in Hebrew is: siqqusim mesomem (Noun abomination, H8251, followed by Verb desolating, H8074)
Glad to see you are willing to do some research. What you say above, however, is factually incorrect. Siqqusim is PLURAL. Whereas you said,
It [Daniel 9:27] mentions the abomination of desolation which Jesus says is future...
Daniel 9:27's "desolating abominations" were historically fulfilled when the Romans brought their eagle-headed standards into the Temple precincts, and worshiped them and offered sacrifices to them. The eagles were representative of their chief god Jupiter. Whereas what you wrote above is false.
And Daniel 8 says it is explicitly about the end times:
17As he came near to where I stood, I was terrified and fell facedown. “Son of man,” he said to me, “understand that the vision concerns the time of the end.”

Again, factually incorrect: the phrase is "a time of an end." That end was of the Seleucid period of rule over Judea, as the full context of the passage shows. And that I showed in Part 2 of my article on Daniel 8, which you either did not read or chose to ignore. The view I presented was the standard, historical interpretation of Daniel 8 by the Church, up until the advent of the pre-trib view. Here is the most pertinent part of my article:
a time of an end”

Daniel 8:17 כִּי/because לְעֶת־/for a time of קֵץ/ an end [is] הֶחָזֹֽון/the vision/revelation.

“…because the vision is for a time of an end.”

– not “the time of the end,” as this is generally mistranslated. (There is no ה/“the” before קץ.) That interpretation has imposed within it the presumption that there is only one time when there will be an end. But other prophetic, already-fulfilled times, ends, and time-of-end passages can be seen in Ezekiel 7:2-12 and 21:25, 29 (the latter verses generally mistranslated).

Daniel 8:19 אֲשֶׁר־/what יִהְיֶה/shall happen בְּאַחֲרִית/in the latter (part/time) of הַזָּעַם/the fury/rage, כִּי/because [it is] לְמֹועֵד/for an appointed time קֵֽץ/of an end.

“…what shall happen in the latter part of the fury, because it is for an appointed time of an end.”

Again, the Hebrew does not say, as this is generally mistranslated, “at the appointed time (shall be) the end.” Like with verse 17, nothing of this event relates to our day either. To give a similar example, Daniel 11:29 prophesies “at the appointed time he [Antiochus] shall return and go toward the south,” but that “appointed time” prophecy was fulfilled in 168 B.C.

Daniel 8:23 וּֽבְאַחֲרִית/And in the latter (part/time) מַלְכוּתָם/of malkutham/their kingdom, כְּהָתֵם/while bringing to fullness [Hiphil Infin. with prefixכ: “while, when”] הַפֹּשְׁעִים/the transgressing/rebelling ones [Qal Active Participle, plural], מֶלֶךְ/a king יַעֲמֹד/shall arise…

“And in the latter part of their kingdom, while the rebelling ones/transgressors are bringing to fullness their apostasy, a king shall arise…”

These three verses, 8:17, 19, 23, are where translators and commentators often go astray, imposing words and understanding not expressed in the Hebrew. In these and similar Hebrew prophetic texts, a common default presumption of translators has been that every “time of an end,” “Day of the LORD,” and “latter day/time” must refer to the end of OUR age. This is not true at all: there have been many “ends” of kingdoms and eras prophesied that have already come to pass. For example:

Jeremiah 46:2 Against Egypt. Concerning the army of Pharaoh Necho, King of Egypt, which was by the River Euphrates in Carchemish, which Nebuchadrezzar King of Babylon smote in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah. … 10 For this is the Day of the Lord GOD of hosts, a day of vengeance…

This historically-famous “Day of the LORD” battle took place in 610 B.C. Other fulfilled Day of the LORD prophecies include Joel 1:15 (but not Joel 2-3), and Ezekiel 7:19 and 13:5. The final “end”/Day of the LORD/last of the last days does not come until the end of the 7th Millennium, “when He [Christ] delivers the kingdom to God the Father…[having] put an end to all rule and all authority and power.” 1 Cor. 15:24

Daniel 8:23 defines the very era of the 2300-day abasement of Jerusalemʼs Temple: “in the latter part/time of their [the Greek] kingdom.” By 168 B.C., only the significantly-diminished Seleucid and Ptolemaic kingdoms remained out of Alexanderʼs once vast empire. Therefore, the “fierce king” and ha-poshim/“the rebelling ones” of verse 23 can only be Antiochus Epiphanes and the Jewish apostates, respectively. All of the verses from 8:23-28 prophesy about the qualities and acts of Antiochus: they do not prophesy about OUR times.

So; do we in his Christian age, not have any ending?
I do not buy the preterist view. It leaves people without the knowledge and understanding of Gods plans for His peoples in the future.

The Roman army looted and burned the Temple.
Please provide the reference in Josephus' books for your assertion.

No, Daniel 8:23 the fierce king is the end times little horn person. The transgressors are the ten kings of the EU.

In Daniel 8:25, we read that he will stand up against the Prince of prince - which is referring to Jesus

The vision about the 2300 days is time of the end. Daniel 8:17.

There are 6 time frames in the book of Daniel pertaining to the end times.
Daniel 7:25
Daniel 12:7
Daniel 12:12
Daniel 8:14
Daniel 9:27
Daniel 12:11

All of those time frame events will take place in the 7 years that precede the day of Jesus's return.

What I don't understand is how people can waste time and energy speculating in such detail about things that really have no relevance to following Christ today. And then arguing with others with different speculations.

I have come to learn that partaking in these Eschatological forums simply means I've going to have to deal with getting into mini debates with others who view things differently. There are times when I question if it's worth it, because it takes a lot of time and energy to go back and forth in conversation with multiple people at once. On top of that no one seems open to see things differently than they already do. I don't have the time like others on here do, as I find that many are retired.

Nonetheless, I still find importance in sharing information. I believe God will use it according to His will.

I have come to a similar conclusion and limit myself to engaging in threads that I find personally interesting, without any expectation of a reasonable dialogue.
