  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Major League Baseball has warned players not to write on their baseball caps after San Francisco Giants players wrote Bible verses on the custom hats they wore during the team’s LGBT pride night.

“The writing on the cap violates our rules and consistent with normal practice we have warned the players about future violations," MLB Chief Communications Officer Pat Courtney said in a statement provided to Outsports on Monday.

Courtney’s statement comes three days after three Giants players, including starting pittcher Landen Roupp, included a reference to Genesis 9:12-16on their pride night cap, which featured the team’s logo emblazoned with the rainbow colors that have come to symbolize LGBT advocacy.

Genesis 9:12-16 states: “And God said, ‘This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.’”

Good! They should leave their hats alone, so no one is excluded or left out! It just gets too controversial.

What does baseball have to do with pride month, anyway? It’s an all American pastime.

This is the result of identity politics. Of breaking people down into groups identified by the race, sex, gender, ethnic background, class and 101 other identities.

If you have the wrong identity then your unworthy. Identiies competing against each other for rights and worthiness. It literally cultivates hate for differences and a divided society.

Words, narratives and by extension symbols, acromymes and icons become signs of what is good and bad. Say the wrong thing or don't include certain words and symbols and all hell breaks loose.

Its as though society has create their own bible on PC to replace the original bible. They have their own high priests being the activists and their own lay priest in NGO's and politicians spreading the word.

The crazy thing is if we were truely fair and equal under this idea then we would be flooding public places and flag poles with 1001 different symbols to ensure everyone is represented. Otherwise this is fixating on one or some and not others. Because there is an unlimited number of ways we can break down humans that we end up back at the individual.

It use to be that society and nations stood with the cross as the symbol that united us for millenia. Now this symbol is seen as a threat and hate that must be drowned out and stopped. While replacing it with the new religion of the worlds progressive ideology.

I think it is best to stay away from religion and politics in work and sports and public events. Thats how it use to be. Society recognised that the church was a seperate part that dealt with morals and saving souls. People respected this more as it was something private where people could turn to away from the world.

Actually, if it is a condition of employment in the MLB and they agreed to it in their contracts, they might can sue, but it probably wouldn't go anywhere.
So odd! No one should be forced to do something they believe is wrong! how unfortunate!

Since a contract is an agreement in advance, a person who signs it has agreed by its terms. In this case that can included the uniforms picked by MLB and their teams. Maybe a year or two ago there was a controversy about MLB shifting to shoddy uniforms, but the players had to wear what their teams picked. The MLB agreement in contention is that players are not to put unauthorized personal messages on their uniforms. In this case it's a bible verse. It could just as easily have been a political statement or the name of a favorite honky-tonk. Technically the point of contention is the non-authorized message, not the bible verse, but I suspect the bible verse had a good bit to do with it.
