  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Greetings Cecile,
Thanks to you for jogging our memories about those wonderful churches especially the Saint-Victor church. We've been centering many of our recent mission efforts in that part of France too and the deep roots of the faith there are indeed among our great inspirations. The Eglise Saint-Victor as I recall, has a history as an abbey and so still retains much of that humble and quiet dignified character. Yet you can still just feel the love and devotion its builders and congregants have poured into every inch of the structure and the unique connections they build with each other.

Yes St. Victor is a gem! A few of our missionaries based out of Greece, including large groups in Albania and Kosovo, did a "field trip" to south France and some of the Mediterranean religious sites and St. Victor featured highly. And truly, yes it does remind you of the modest and yet richly historic churches of the Balkans and Greece, small yet full of character.

This is St. Victor, a majestic gem and speaks to the inspiration of the generations who built it and felt the presence of the divine there. And continue to, every day in and around that structure. The architectural traditions in Mediterranean France do of course differ from what you'll find in Greece, even from the same era but you can see and feel the similar inspiration.
