  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

"Why I STOPPED “Speaking in Tongues”… (What Changed My Mind)

"In this video, I explain why I stopped speaking in tongues and share both my personal experience and the biblical reasons that led me to reconsider charismatic tongues. I grew up in a Pentecostal church and was taught about the baptism of the Holy Spirit and the gift of tongues. Many people described tongues as a private prayer language, but I began to ask important questions: Is speaking in tongues biblical? What does the Bible say about speaking in tongues? Does Scripture teach a private prayer language, or something different?

We look closely at passages such as Acts 2 and 1 Corinthians 14 to examine what tongues in the Bible actually mean. I also address common texts people use when discussing charismatic tongues and Pentecostal speaking in tongues, including questions about praying in the Spirit and whether tongues should be practiced today. If you have ever wondered what the Bible says about the gift of tongues, whether Christians should speak in tongues, or how to understand tongues in Scripture, this video will walk you through my reasoning step by step. This is both a testimony and a biblical examination of tongues, Scripture, and the authority of the Word of God over experience."

I am not a cessationist but I don’t think the Pentecostal or Charismatic experience of tongues is consistent with the Apostolic charism.

As a Pentecostal at the time, I came to the same conclusion, my experience of tongues was not that of the New Testament, and I stopped.

I believe that real speaking in tongues is where one is speaking in a foreign language unknown to oneself. Thus relaying the word of God to those in need of His teachings.

Yes and the interpreter is the person who knows the language. This is how this gift was presented on the day of Pentecost. All other forms are convoluted extractions from Paul's teachings.

Thanks for sharing!
Be blessed.

Sure I like the word of God over experience too. Too bad there is no definitive list of operations, administrations, and diversity of gifts, ministries and personal operations. The reason there is not is because there are millions of potential combinations and permutations. I would argue instead that each believer is like a fingerprint, unique in their calling, able to change with various seasons Thus, it is impossible to provide all specific doctrine on such uses other than some basic guidelines from the word of God.

I know too that if I spend time praying in the spirit (tongues in my case), even a few hours a week, then the short-term results typically are far better, than if I did not. The only biblical case I can see to eliminate tongues is to move unto prophecy.

I Cor 14:2-4 (NAS)
"For the one who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people, but to God; for no one [a]understands, but [b]in his spirit he speaks mysteries. 3 But the one who prophesies speaks to people for edification, [c]exhortation, and consolation. 4 The one who speaks in a tongue edifies himself; but the one who prophesies edifies the church.

If your not speaking in tongues anymore, are you desiring earnestly the gifts? Does your church ever do deliverance? lay hands on the sick? anoint with oil? Seems interesting that typically those that speak in tongues (including charismatic Catholics) are far more aggressive in doing these things. I admit there are variances of theological thinking as the nuances of tongues, public and private. Even in Acts 2, the sheer number of people there make it unlikely to know if all the tongues were known languages. Some scholars suggest that as some appeared drunk, it may indicate that there was more going on than just speaking in tongues in foreign languages.
I am not saying anyone's doctrine is wrong but I would be careful to be too dogmatic.

And when I was very young they spoke in. TONGUES and it scared me BUT in. COR 13:8 Paul says that TONGUES

WHETHER PROPHECIES. they will be N. ABOLISHED whether LANGUAGES. they will STOP. of them selves !!

But in. Mark 16:16. says that He that believers and is BAPTIZED //. AND NO WATER // HYDOR HERE AT ALL. shall be saved

buit he that believers not shall be DAMNED. !!

And in. verse 17 they shall. SPEAK. with NEW TONGUES and in. verse 19 it was the LORD who spoke these words to

THEM. , so what say you ??

And it was the LORD THAT SPOKE TO. them !!

And I believe that these verse will happen after the DEPARTIURE of. the BODY OF CHRIST and that only Paul's

13 EPISTLES are for the BODY. of CHRIST. and that Paul is the APOSTLE to. the GENTILES !!

I am 36+ years in the faith and have received offers to be instructed in how to pray and worship in tongues. My question is always, "Why?" I end up explaining to these potential teachers that if Yehovah God wants me pray and/or worship in an unknown tongue I would be powerless to prevent Almighty God from performing such a miracle. And I ask here, why would I desire to not understand what I was praising or praying to God for?
