  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, downplayed the size of the blade Karmelo Anthony used to kill Austin Metcalf and suggested his recent guilty verdict and 35-year sentence were the result of racism.

During a Tuesday episode of her podcast "Clock It with Crockett," Crockett disputed that the knife Anthony used to stab the 17-year-old Metcalf during a track meet at Memorial High School in Frisco, Texas, last year could be considered a "deadly weapon."

“Wait a minute, it was this?" she said, gesturing with her fingers to indicate a small blade. "Was it a switch? I don't know what he had."

When one of her guests said the murder weapon was like a Swiss Army knife, she said, "Yeah, like with the little scissors and everything and whatever, so it was small."

“Well, I would argue the size of it alone, you wouldn't even think it's a deadly weapon," she added.

She is either lying or terribly mistaken. If you have a Walmart near you, you can see this knife. Walmart usually stocks it on the camping aisle. It’s distributed under the Ozark Trail brand name. At the Walmart where I saw it some years ago, some Ozark Trail knives were hanging together in one spot and this one was some distance away in another, so you might have to look for it. It is classified as a multi-tool because it has a glass breaker point; a strap/cord cutter; LED light; screwdriver; and the knife blade. The back portion of the blade is serrated. Best I can recall, the blade is about 3.5 inches ( 8.9 cm) long. Seem to recall it could be opened with one hand. It was more a conglomeration than anything else, and passed on it. The Leatherman tool line is more pricey, but better designed. The key thing is that it’s not a tiny blade. It’s not a Bowie, but neither is it a peanut knife.

No one has to take my word for it. Just go to camping in Walmart and look for it.

As it happened, went to a Walmart this evening to look for valve stems for mower tires, went over to camping goods, and found the kind of knife purported to have been used in the attack:
