  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Strengthening Grip for Handgun Shooters?

Not really apprehensive about a .357 Magnum. It's not like a .44 Magnum and above. But am mindful that it's more recoil than a 9mm, and though I don't notice that, was wondering if strengthening my grip would be a good idea. Found a couple of old squeeze type grip exercisers and have been trying those. Is this a good idea or a waste of time?

A stronger grip is always good, but be careful. It's not hard to hurt yourself by overtraining with those things. You also want to be careful to not lose trigger finger/grip finger independence: firm grip fingers and relaxed trigger finger is key. And wrist strength is an important part of control, so don't neglect that.

Had just set one down that I was using casually. Using two different grips: Spring up and spring down. I need to find my dinky weights I had once to hold while flexing my wrists. As to my trigger finger, I I'm trying to flex it. Had an injury decades ago that sometimes makes it stiff to the point a grandfather suggested changing my trigger finger to my middle finger. I'm looking at a DA / SA revolver, and my plan now is to use snap caps and work the trigger DA until I can do it as smoothly as SA.

Side note: I'm planning on using snap caps that are blaze orange or similar color so that they'll be impossible to confuse with ammo, just in case.

One other "grip" idea is to change to rubber grips on the gun itself. That helps prevent slippage under recoil regardless of your own grip strength.

OTOH, isn't that the idea with the handle on the Blackhawk?

Note: This one has rubber grips.

Not familiar with that one, but I thought it came standard with wood grips.
