Here's an amusing anecdote from my day. I was talking to a hospital patient who's having a tough time, and who told me she doesn't feel close to God right now. I asked her if there were things which had helped her feel close to God in the past, and she told me yes, certain medications were good for that.

I had to keep a straight face as I explained that I couldn't really help with that method...

That is a very intelligent response.

I am feeling so sad at the moment that a service user at work noticed. Fortunately emotional honesty and recovery from addiction are inseperable, so I turned it into a point about accepting our true feelings, and not reacting as if an emotion needs to be fixed urgently.

Some Christian's do seem to believe that we should all be perfectly happy all the time, but I cannot see how it is supposed to work like that.

It doesn't work. It only makes people ashamed and withdrawn about what's really going on for them.

I only pay attention to 2 numbers on those: monthly deposits and total balance. Let's be honest, if someone is embezzling, they aren't going to put it on the report.

I'm headed down the road this afternoon to set up for a 2 day synod/conference for the Convocation of Anglican Churches. That is not actually my jurisdiction but I've worked with them in the past and they asked me to help as a local resource. I found the site for them after a location the area bishop had tried to get proved unsuitable. I'm going to handle the catering and give a lecture the second day. I see on the final schedule that I've also been tasked to say Evening Prayer on the last day. Most of the attendees are flying in and it's raining a bit today. My own bishop is driving in to be an ecumenical observer and network. I hope their travel is smooth.

We had a most wonderful little synod. My Lutheran friends went out of their way to provide the finest hospitality and everyone was well fed and comfortable. The Archbishop was well pleased with the facility I was able to get for him. I was privileged to give an academic presentation in the presence of Dr. C. George Fry, who has written a number of standard textbooks for the Lutherans and is about to celebrate the 30th anniversary of his episcopate. He gave my work a ringing endorsement!

Lola snuck into the picture with most of the Bishops and the Abbot.
