CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

“NASA is committed to achieving the near‑impossible once again: to return to the moon before the end of President Trump’s term, build a moon base, establish an enduring presence, and do the other things needed to ensure American leadership in space," NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman said.

The Artemis IV and Artemis V missions that will send astronauts to the lunar surface are now slated for launch in 2028, a new timeline that Isaacman said is critical to beating the Chinese. [We have already beat them.]

“They might be early, and recent history says we might be late,” said Isaacman.

After Artemis V, NASA hopes to land astronauts on the moon every six months, with the assistance of commercial space companies, gradually building a base in which people can live and work long-term, Isaacman said.

[The idea of a "Gateway" space station has been scrapped in favor of going directly to the moonbase.]

While Artemis II astronauts prepare for their moon mission [a non-landing mission potentially lifting off April 1], NASA says teams are concurrently standardizing the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket for future Artemis missions. The first mission to use the standardized rocket will be Artemis III.

Regarding the Human Landing Systems (HLS), the vehicle that will carry the Artemis astronauts to the lunar surface, NASA says it is working with SpaceX and Blue Origin to simplify their HLS profiles to accelerate the development of the landers.

While this would be exciting if it came to fruition, I can't help thinking...

A lot of people will defend scientific advancement and while I am generally one of thsoe people, I also believe that there is something to said for the real struggles of many MANY (and a growing number) of Americans.


If you're not willing to tax the RICHEST people who can afford it, to put food on the tables of people who cannot afford it, I don't think you should be spending poor people's money and sending the richest people to the moon.

NASA reveals new details on plan to build a base on the moon​


NASA said the initial development of the Moon Base will occur over three phases beginning now and stretching to 2032 and beyond.

Moon Base Phase 1 is about demonstrating that the technology works as intended and that the private companies supplying much of the hardware are capable of delivering the products NASA is spending billions of dollars to procure.

For Phase 1, NASA anticipates 25 launches and 21 landings. They plan to send about 4 metric tons of cargo to the surface of the moon during that time and ramp up to that level during Phases 2 and 3.

For Moon Base I, Jeff Bezos-backed Blue Origin is providing a lunar lander, called the Blue Moon Mark 1 Endurance Lander, that NASA hopes to launch no earlier than fall 2026. That mission will send scientific payloads to the South Pole region of the moon.

Astrobotic, a Pittsburgh-based aerospace company, is building a second lander that will deliver more than 1,100 pounds of cargo to the lunar surface during the Moon Base II mission.

In addition to landers, NASA has awarded two companies, Astrolaub and Lunar Outpost, a total of $439 million to build and deliver lunar terrain vehicles that the Artemis astronauts can drive on the lunar surface during their visits

NASA hopes to get at least one of them to the moon before the Artemis IV astronauts arrive on the lunar surface.

We’ll see. There were grand plans in the 1960 that came to nothing, and grand programs canceled first under Nixon, then Obama. I often said that if NASA had a rocket that burned cheese, Senator Proxmire would have been one of space exploration’s biggest backers. Such is the way of things.

Back then, we had those who whined that this was too hard and those who were critical because they thought - or claimed- the money spent would have otherwise gone to their pet social programs. At least, that’s what they were selling.

The irony? If it was private industry doing this, there would be calls to shut them down Just Because. And that’s why we can’t have nice things.
