  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Which Anglican theologian are you?

Thanks! I came out closest to Rowan Williams (with Robinson, Underhill, Temple, and Ramsey also in my constellation). I've never actually read Williams, even though I own one of his books. Looks like I have some reading to do!

The irony for me is that I've read a lot of Williams (and quote him often in sermons etc) but he wasn't in my top five. My closest match was Kelly Brown Douglas (whom I'd never heard of).

I also had Robinson in my top five, and I haven't read him either, so clearly I have some exploring to do.

I'm closest to Samuel Taylor Coleridge (Romantic Theology · Trinitarian Orthodoxy). My wider constellation: Richard Hooker, Dorothy L. Sayers, Joseph Butler, Charles Gore.

My constellation looks more or less like an arrow; quite linear. 1779772563802.png

Now you mention it, interesting that Lewis wasn't on the list!
I'm not Anglican, but I've read more of CS Lewis writings than any other author, Christian or otherwise.

However he was technically not a theologian, a comment he often made in his essays.

He was an apologist, and a brilliant one at that, nicknamed "the apostle to the sceptics".

Well, that's true (about Lewis not being a theologian). That said, his contributions to popular theology were so significant he's shaped the thinking of several generations, now. It'd be interesting to see where he fit in that overall picture.

I'm not Anglican, I'm Roman Catholic.

I DO LOVE The Book of Common Prayer and love my Anglican brothers and sisters in Christ.

I got George Herbert.

My "brightest stars" were Underhill and Williams.

Are they referring to Evelyn Underhill and Rowan Williams?

Peace

The most important British scholar that had a positive effect on me was C. S. Lewis.
Are you one of the generation of Anglican raised children who climbed into wardrobes on rainy days trying to find a forrest of fir trees and a lamp post?

I was one of those.

It was entirely CS Lewis's fault. :D

You didn't have to be raised Anglican. I was raised unchurched, but I loved the Narnia books.
Me too! :D Love, love CS Lewis!

Apparently according to that site Lancelot Andrewes for me, with my wider constellation including:

William Laud
1573–1645 · England 65% resonance
Caroline Archbishop · the Beauty of Holiness.
Thomas Cranmer
1489–1556 · Tudor England 65% resonance
English Reformation · Architect of the Book of Common Prayer.
George Herbert
1593–1633 · England 52% resonance
Caroline · Poet-Priest.
John Keble
1792–1866 · England 51% resonance
The Oxford Movement.

Regarding this the only surprising answer for me was Cranmer. I suspect it was because I answered several of the questions in a manner that could be called liturgical.

Thank you for sharing this interesting examination with us @Paidiske !
