  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Like the new restrictions on college classes and public schools to ensure that everything is politically correct and forbidden topics are avoided.
We don't need State actors dictating politics, or choosing which politics are allowed on campus over students.

What definition of socialism requires a state? All that is needed is social ownership of the means of production.
Even without a "state", such as with Libertarian Socialism, you'll still have power networks, such as worker councils, popular assemblies, and community federations. While there might not be jails, there will be re-education, or "restoratative justice" councils for anti-social people, aimed toward convincing individuals to change their behavior, one way or another.

So even without a "State", Libertarian Socialism won't actually be stateless in theory. And so how does this differ from pure communism then? Realistically, it doesn’t differ much, if at all. It looks pretty much the same as pure communism... the only difference being the existence of currency - and I'm not sure how that would make it better than pure communism.

At least with communism, there is no "state" controlling things, or money to worry about not having enough of.
What do you think communism is then?

So even without a "State", there won't be a utopia! And how does this differ from pure communism? Realistically, it really looks exactly like pure communism. It is pure communism, actually, by definition.

...So just say out loud, that if you are a Libertarian Socialist, you are a Communist, as there is no difference between the two.
Communists are a part of socialists but not all socialists are communist. At least that is how many see it, hence the comments about your somewhat strange differentiation between communists and socialists. Socialism is a bigger category than communism, like mammals are a bigger category than cats. But communism is part of the bigger socialist category, just like cats are mammals. At least that is my understanding of how people use the terms today.

It's not what I think - it's what it is... Communism is a communal society with no government at all, and no money. Everyone works together freely, such as like in a typical commune.

Pure Communism has never happened, even though some government party's "call" themselves communist party's- they actually aren't - they are all authoritarian socialists.

I would rather be a communist than a socialist, because pure communism would be the final end result of a successful socialist project. It would *be* the utopia, like the pot of gold that sits at the end of the rainbow...

...But like a rainbow, pure communism is also an illusion. It can never happen, because it's just a story from a book... A man's fantasy.

If you are a communist then you're also a socialist. Many people view communism as a subset of socialism. You don't have to agree with it, but that is possibly why you get some pushback on the definitions issue. You would have to point out what you mean, if your meaning differs from that viewpoint.

Why would any socialist 'not like' communism? What is the big turn-off? Especially considering that communism has not yet been realized? How would they know, for sure, that they wouldn't like it?

Could it be true, that many socialists would actually *love* communism, but are afraid of saying the 'C' word?

IMO, Communism, Libertarian Socialism, and Social anarchism are so closely related, there need not be 3 different terms. Is it true, that there are multiple terms in order to disguise the term "communism", by blurring the language regarding a single concept?

The participants in the Spanish civil war and the occupants of Soviet mass graves would like a word.

The period called " the dictatorship of the proletariat", I guess.
Especially considering that communism has not yet been realized?
Now, you're starting to sound like the " no true communist" crowd. Communists are judged by the behaviour of the people claiming to be communists. That can't be a foreign concept.
How would they know, for sure, that they wouldn't like it?

No, not likely.

I think you have confused communism with a sex cult.

Prove it! I just researched what pure communism is compared with what pure socialism is.

You can't correct anything I've said, because I'm right.
I'm sure that you looked it up on the internet.

Perhaps, just perhaps, some of us know a lot more about socialism and communism that you do.

There are many forms of both.

In any case, asking someone to prove that rhe pure form of one is better than the pure form of the other is pure folly.

Yeah right. Socialists think they can create 10 words for every concept, that way nothing can be debated.

Nobody has proven that they know anything more than me. One person mentioned the Spanish Civil war, and I thought: 'okay, here's something good'... Nope. Another flop.

You've all managed to take part in a conversation without actually taking part. I dont think that shows any kind of talent.

There are 5 communist states: China, Cuba, Laos, North Korea, and Vietnam. I've been to 4 of those. And I distinctly remember buying things when I was there. I used pieces of paper and small circular metal discs representing different values you could use to exchange for goods. They had been officially issued by some group or other that ran the country.

Maybe you're thinking of the Amish...

Lol, none of those states are actually Communist... They only say they're communist, because the political party in control is called: "The Communist Party" - but there has never actually been an actual Communist country on earth before.

Lol!
