  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Anyone up for a chat thread?

My latest Lamb trick is Lamb Strips grilled on the BBQ or hotplate, then on a wrap or flatbread, a swipe of Tzatziki, then the lamb, topped with some salad, then rolled or folded. It is kind of Souvlaki-based, earthy peasant food, though my son calls it a 'Greek kebab'
Maybe I'll try Lamb someday! :)

For our friend RileyG:

I think this is supposed to be displaying ocean access. It's somewhat wrong because the Great Lakes are all accessible to the ocean.

Great lakes-->St. Lawrence River-->St. Lawrence Seaway-->Atlantic Ocean. It doesn't help Nebraska, though. Sorry, Riley. :D

I joined the Navy and was, of course, near or on the ocean for several years. Neither of my parents had ever seen it until they came to visit me in 2011.

I took them out to the ocean in South Carolina.

The idea of lamb being so exotic that grocery stores don't stock it, is quite strange to me. (Even duck - which I love - I would expect to be able to get in the normal supermarket without much trouble, although it's expensive, and maybe a very limited range of options. Pheasant or quail, okay, that's more of a stretch!)

I guess Australia has always had sheep - wool was a huge industry here for a long time, so much so that it was said we rode to prosperity "on the sheep's back" - so it was natural that we'd butcher them, too.

Yeah, but your island is so tiny, you probably can't get very far from the sea.... ;)
No one in the UK is more than two hours drive away from the sea. You are right about tiny, we have plenty of water, not much space.

Driving distances, in miles, for me to reach some of the well known Atlantic Coast beaches:
Rehoboth Beach, Delaware 467
Atlantic City, New Jersey 476
Ocean City, Maryland 483
Virginia Beach, Virginia 521

But there is always Lake Erie.

I live about 125 miles from the nearest beach, but I probably wouldn't make that drive just to go to the beach.

But I grew up walking distance from the beach, so it's not like it would be a novelty.

I want to try Lamb too, but the problem with that is that no grocery stores in my area seem to sell it. :(

Or Duck.

Or Pheasant. Or Quail.

:(
My grandmother, who was a daughter of Czech immigrants, made Goose sometimes. I never tried it, but that's what my parents said.

I only tried Duck once and didn't care for it at all. I'm not sure if I would try Pheasant or Quail, I'm not a very adventurous eater. sigh

I know a Costco in my area sells a whole lamb. Would give it a try sometime!

Why isn't access to the ocean (at least once in a lifetime) a Constitutional Right?

(Sorry, but I am British and some of these posts make me want to cry.)
I'm in the midwest. United States. I live faaaar from the ocean, sadly. :(

I'm a bit frustrated right now. So there's this mother-daughter brunch thing coming up next Monday just after Mother's Day. And some of the ladies said they'd sure like my daughters to go. And I said, "Yes, that's great, I would very much like them to go. Who's going to pick them up?" All of a sudden, this became super hard. Their mother has been dead for 8 years now. All of a sudden, most of these women act like they don't know where my house is or they can't find it. It's honestly hurting my feelings.

I hate these Mother/daughter, Father/daughter, etc. things for exactly this reason. Not everybody has that parent in their lives and it excludes or can be painful for those who don't. I don't know how it could be packaged, but I'd sooner have it be more like "bring an adult close to you". As a parent of 3 sons, it also gripes me that it seems to be skewed toward daughters.

I'd be hurt too. It's that thing of, we want to do something nice for your girls... as long as it doesn't, like, put us out at all. Then it's too hard.

It is very sad to read this. I hope your daughters have a lovely day when that brunch is going on, regardless of where they are at the time.
