  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

United States President Donald Trump says a deal with Iran is close, but Iranian officials suggest major issues, including Tehran’s nuclear programme remain unresolved.

What are the chances of a peaceful settlement?

It's been almost the statutory two weeks. Nothing.

But Trump is trying out a new angle of diplomacy.

I think there's still a reasonable chance. It requires Iran to be creative enough to come up with a deal that Trump can claim is a victory, but still leaves them in a reasonable position. One question is whether he even wants a deal, or whether conspiracy theories are right that claim Israel will accept nothing less than the destruction of Iran. Sending Kushner rather than an actual diplomatic team gives support to the conspiracy theory.

This picture is sad, evil and so dishonest. Trump starts trouble with Iran. But Trump isn't fighting. Our shoulders are fighting and killing people, for no good reason. Our shoulders are getting killed. Because Iran has to defend themself. Obama worked out a good plan with Iran, before Trump took office. And Trump rejected the good plan. Trump is the problem with so many issues.

Trump: ‘I don’t think about’ Americans’ financial situation in Iran negotiations

It's the lack of thought that counts!

“The only thing that matters when I’m talking about Iran, they can’t have a nuclear weapon,” he continued.

“I don’t think about Americans’ financial situations. I don’t think about anybody. I think about one thing: We cannot let Iran have a nuclear weapon,” he said.

polling shows Americans growing impatient with the president on the issue. [cost of living]

Someone knows how to negotiate, I guess. It's not even Tuesday yet.

Trump says he’s postponing ‘scheduled attack of Iran tomorrow’ at Middle East leaders’ request

  • President Donald Trump said he is calling off a plan to attack Iran on Tuesday after the heads of three regional powers in the Middle East asked him to “hold off.”
  • Trump said he received requests from Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and United Arab Emirates President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
  • Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Dan Cain should still “be prepared to go forward with a full, large scale assault of Iran, on a moment’s notice, in the event that an acceptable Deal is not reached,” Trump said.

‘Perfect statement’: Trump defends saying he isn’t thinking about Americans’ finances amid Iran talks

“That’s a perfect statement. I’d make it again,” Trump told Fox News’ Bret Baier in an interview Friday after being shown a clip of his previous comments.

In the Fox News interview, taped in China during Trump’s visit, the president said there will be “short-term pain” as he negotiates an end to the Iran war and a reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. The blockade of the strait, one of the world’s busiest waterways for oil tankers, has spiked global energy prices.

With gas prices rising and Trump’s approval sinking, Republicans are grappling with the political fallout from the Iran war heading into the November midterm elections, when they’ll be defending slim majorities in each chamber.

[They'll have to grapple even more if asked about this perfect statement from Trump.]

Senate advances bill aimed at ending Iran war as Cassidy, after primary loss, flips to support it

The 50-47 vote tally demonstrated the small but crucial number of Republicans voting to halt the war with Iran.

However, this was just the vote to have a vote. 3 Republican senators weren't around today, but they (and Fetterman [D-Strokelandia]) would presumably vote against it, with the Veep breaking the tie in favor of letting Trump do more of whatever this is. If it passed, it would also face the House, which most recently tied 212-212 on the issue. And from there, presumably Trump would veto it.

Trump says he’s in 'no hurry' to make a peace deal with Iran

President Donald Trump said he was in “no hurry” to finalize a peace deal with Iran, 12 weeks into the war, while speaking with reporters on Wednesday.

Trump suggested he would not consider making a "limited deal" with Iran that is just focused on reopening the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran releases Hormuz 'controlled maritime zone' boundaries

The Iranian government released the boundaries of the Strait of Hormuz that it says are being managed by the newly created Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA).

Trump started this mess. Why would Iran want to agree, with a plea deal.

The 50-47 vote tally demonstrated the small but crucial number of Republicans voting to halt the war with Iran.

... the House, which most recently tied 212-212 on the issue.
The House cancelled a scheduled vote on the issue.

Republican leaders of the U.S. House of Representatives unexpectedly canceled a vote on Thursday on a resolution seeking to ‌end the Iran war unless President Donald Trump obtains Congress' authorization, two days ‌after a similar measure advanced in the U.S. Senate.

The vote had been scheduled to take place late Thursday afternoon, just before lawmakers left Washington for their Memorial Day recess.

"We had the votes without question, and they knew it," Representative Gregory Meeks, the top Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, told reporters after the vote was canceled.

Democrats, and a few Republicans, have called on Trump to come to Congress for authorization to use military force, noting that the U.S. Constitution says that Congress, not the president, can declare war. They have expressed concerns that Trump may have entered the ‌country into a long conflict without setting out a clear strategy.
