  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

That you have gone to wedding venues is not the part I have difficulty believing. It is that you have seen bette outdoor venues. I do not trust your aesthetic judgement.

Oh, so we're getting into "interpretive art/feng shui" debates lol....

Well, if there's any artsy types into that stuff on this thread they're free to weigh in.

To me, that's a no-brainer

And that's not even the nicest one in Ohio (of all places), I'd bet good money there's even more immaculate ones in Cali wine country if I had to venture a guess.

Is your argument: There are nicer things than a tent? I'm not sure people would disagree with that.

Honestly, the comparisons on this thread have bounced around from the a "backyard texas grill up' to the grand ballrooms of europe.

My reply to the other user is pertinent here...

So I'll restate:

Having a secure event space does benefit the people. People elect leaders for a reason (you don't have to like or agree with those reasons).

You win some, you lose some.

When your team wins, do you want that result negated by someone willing to check into a public hotel with a bag of guns?

There's no bigger threat to democracy (for those who constantly cite "threat to democracy" as their #1 concern), than the notion that "If you pick a team we don't like, we'll just shoot your guys"
I agree. That's why we have a very sophisticated personal bodyguard service for our elected officials to pre-screen and secure areas for the times when they do step out of their fortified bunkers and interact with some select portion of We the People.

Let's be real, a crazed gunman is a very real threat we all face as Americans. I don't see why our elected officials should be any exemption from this risk we choose to keep as a part of our national identity.

But it's not the "how", I outlined in an earlier post (#160) numerous examples dating back to Reagan showing presidents doing things unilaterally (or at least trying to).
That's not the issue (or at least the only issue) with the "How." And I think you know that.
If it was the "how", we would have heard the same crowd complaining about vaccine mandate attempts and loan cancellation.
I, for one, would have complained had the President ignored court orders in either of those cases. But he didn't. Neither did either of those cases involve millions of dollars of donations from companies nakedly attempting to curry favor with the administration - and millions more in anonymous donations that the government refused to reveal the sources of. So yeah, the issue is the "How."

I don't begrudge Trump for trying to do things unilaterally or by executive order, even if I disagree with him. It has become the norm in our government, like it or not, and it'll stay that way until either Congress decides to start doing its job again or the courts decide to exercise some limits on executive power. What I do begrudge him is his tendency to simply ignore the courts when it suits him, as well as his willingness to accept blatant bribery from all quarters (and the unwillingness of his supporters to acknowledge it).

So when you said "Outdoor events" your thought is the WH should ditch the tents and have everyone literally outside in the open air? This is what you are comparing it to? Well, you have fun with that line of argument. I'll catch up with it when I'm back from Italy.

This picture of the foyer leading to the main room shows the magnificent view. You do realize that the covered walkway is not the main space, right?
Here it is from the other side:

And here it is from the inside:

Please lol.
Have you not seen some of the wedding venues that exist at wineries that are on the property converted castles and old stone mansions?

I've been to 2 or 3 weddings at Gervasi vineyards in Canton OH, and their outdoor space looks better that this.
Meh. Do you consider the pavilion "outdoors"?

I've seen the other pictures of it...

It doesn't exactly scream "State reception hosted by the richest country in the world"

I've also attended an event at the Columbus Botanical Garden/Franklin Park Conservatory that also looked nicer than what's depicted in the pictures you've provided of the temporary structure on the White House lawn.

You do understand wordplay for comedic irony and comparisons right?
I do, even if you do not. I know what hyperbole and strawman are too.

If the ballroom is already fully funded, why would we need to switch to taxpayer funds to get it done sooner?

The "old" Ballroom fund was deposited in a secure Trump account, the "new" Ballroom fund is taxpayers money.

Is this funny because it's true or not funny because it is so true?
