  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Melania Trump demands ABC fire Kimmel over remarks calling her an 'expectant widow'

If they wanted Kimmel to be fired, they should have just let sleeping dogs lie and the ratings decline would have done that for them.

The GOP screwed up when they tried to use government pressure to get him off the air the first time...

At best, he was 6 months away from meeting the same fate as Colbert.

Early on, the GOP could make a valid claim about the social media censorship (among other forms), but if they're going to try to get the same guy fired twice, it begins to look like what's referred to as "jawboning"

Why is the First Lady even worried about what a failed comedian on a failed night show on a failed network says? Clearly no one even watches Kimmel. She should be getting ready to receive the Academy Award for her most watched documentary and have more press briefings about how the pictures of her from the last 30 years are all fake and she never met Epstein or anyone else for that matter.

Trump is 79 and I highly doubt he's in the greatest health. Who knows how much longer he has on earth?

It's up to God whenever God calls him home.

His chances of dying in the next year or two aren't insignificant, but they also aren't as large as one might assume. Prediction markets place the odds of him dying before the end of his term at 15 percent. The latest generally available Anthropic Claude model estimates the chances are more like 20 percent for age and overall health factors.

"Expectanct widow" is a distasteful joke about assassination, not age.

Well, if he dies we can always blame Kimmel and the Left.

If Kimmel had called Jill Biden, or Michelle Obama, or Hillary Clinton an expectant widow, he would have crossed the line into what's unacceptable.

The first amendment does not say that everything said is acceptable. Or that someone can't and shouldn't be fired for saying something that's unacceptable.

This is the second time Kimmel has crossed the line.

Indeed the last two assassination attempts, one where he was actually shot, makes such a joke all about that. No matter what the supposedly intended context was supposed to be.

Third time and straight to the firing squad!

It's the job of comedians to "cross the line" and make people laugh. But while many people on the right claims that the left can't meme, the main difference of the sense of humor I perceive between people with right and with left tendencies is that people on the right get mad when they are being made fun off, while people on the left welcome being made fun off and rather get mad when other people are the victims of mockery.

Given all the stuff Trump has said in public, perhaps Kimmel should run for president.

Gilbert Gottfried got fired from Aflac for his jokes about a tsunami that struck Japan. That's one that I happen to remember. When a comedian works for a company, like Kimmel works for ABC, that comedian can say something that results in the company not wanting to be connected to that person. 'So-in-so's comment does not reflect the standards of this company'. Or something similar is the type of statement that's given out after an employee gets fired over what they said.

Poor comparison. Kimmel made a joke about Trumps age, and the age difference between him and Melania before the assassination. It was clearly not a call to violence, just one more joke about the age of the past two presidents, remembering all the jokes from tbe right about bidens age.

It was before the third assassination attempt. The fact that people have literally been trying to kill him, the fact that he was actually shot and nearly killed, makes calling his wife an expectant widow a really disgusting joke. No matter what the claimed intent of it was. It deserves the backlash it's getting.

If Kimmel had called Jill Biden, or Michelle Obama, or Hillary Clinton an expectant widow,
He’d be just as within his right as an American.

Do you think no on the right has said inappropriate things about them?
he would have crossed the line into what's unacceptable.

The first amendment does not say that everything said is acceptable.
Umm it kinda does. Everything is protected.

It doesn’t say anything about what kinds of speech are acceptable or unacceptable and the point that’s implied is that it protects the kind of speech people typically don’t want to hear. Hence why that speech needs any kind of protection in the first place.

Nobody is trying to silence people for saying “hi how are you?” It’s the controversial stuff no one likes that needs protecting.
Or that someone can't and shouldn't be fired for saying something that's unacceptable.
He can be fired. Sure. No one says he’s untouchable, he’s not the president you know, but do you honestly want him fired for making a joke the First Lady didn’t like? Is that really the kind of country you want to live in?
This is the second time Kimmel has crossed the line.
Then he’s done his job as a comedian, for a second time.

Its on par with some of the vile and idiotic things the president himself says. Fire em all!
