  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Catholics do confession, as do the Orthodox. Some Anglicans will also do it, as well as some Lutherans. The Catholic version of it is always in person with a priest, not by phone or letter or on-line.

It is good that you are seeking to repent from past sins. God is merciful. I don't think just confessing over the internet is wise though. People who do not have your best interests at heart may see it and may figure out how to use it against you. When a Catholic priest hears your confession he is forbidden to ever make it public. Not the case with random people on the internet though. Other sorts of Christian ministers should keep it confidential but it is guaranteed confidential with a Catholic priest and I think also with an Orthodox priest.

I don't know whether you can go to a Catholic priest for confession if you are not already Catholic. Or to an Orthodox priest if you are not already Orthodox. I suspect they would happily talk with you but as far as receiving absolution they might ask you to first become Catholic or Orthodox. I'm not totally sure.

So, what to do until you can confess your sins? Be open with God about it. Be sorry for what you have done. see if there isn't some way of repairing the damage your sins have done to others. And remember that God is merciful.

By the way, welcome to these forums, and welcome into the family of Christ.

I emphatically agree with @chevyontheriver : Don't confess your sins to random strangers on the Internet. Don't confess to AI bots, either; that's not private. Instead, seek out a priest or pastor.

Episcopal priests hear confessions, and, like Catholic priests, they are bound to secrecy regarding what they hear in confession. "The secrecy of a confession is morally absolute for the confessor, and must under no circumstances be broken", says our Book of Common Prayer. An Episcopal priest would probably hear your confession even if you're not Episcopalian, so that could be a good choice for you.

Welcome to CF, and I hope we can have some good conversations regarding the burning questions you spoke of.

oh i see, well that i've done. far as "repairing the damage" goes, i've only really damaged myself. i guess some of the videos i've seen on Youtube dont really clarify what branch of faith they operate in. thanks for clarifying that, that's a load off my shoulders, openly admitting your deepest shame was definitely something i wasnt looking forward to.

You could also try the Chaplin here on CF @TGP2025 on the forum list. He’s very helpful and knowledgeable about every kind of question you might have as a new baby Christian. I mean I agree with @chevyontheriver but the Chaplin could help you with your converting questions, faith and love. There maybe some confusion that he would clear up for you. Personally I go to Calvary chapel for some good preaching sometimes with a prophecy focus for these times. Again welcome and all of CFs resources are for you.

Welcome! Greetings from Scotland.

Confessing sins directly to God is worthwhile IMHO:

Then I acknowledged my sin to you
and did not cover up my iniquity.
I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord.”
And you forgave the guilt of my sin (Psalm 32:5)
