  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

In response, the UK said Sunday that it is trying to bring together a “wide coalition” to ensure safe passage through the critical waterway.
“We continue to support freedom of navigation and the opening of the Strait of Hormuz, which is urgently needed to support the global economy and the cost of living back home,” a UK government spokesperson told CNN on Sunday.
“The Strait of Hormuz must not be subject to tolling,” the spokesperson added. “We are urgently working with France and other partners to put together a wide coalition to protect freedom of navigation.”
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said last month that “mine hunting systems of ours are already in the region.”
The appropriate step. There was no reason to let Iran go on with their propaganda campaign about controlling the Strait of Hormuz which would cause countries not allied with Iran to hesitate before letting their oil tankers go through. As per the article, nations are supporting free passage through those international waters. Unfortunately for Iran they don't want to give up their quest to develop a nuclear bomb and that is the big roadblock in the peace negotiations. We all should be thankful that Iran's nuclear program was decimated just in the nick of time.

They don't want to look too impotent.

So Trump, the same Trump who "won the war" and "decimated Iran" so the strait of Hormuz could be open will now will blockade it because....reasons?

Trump logic at it's best. Wonder which Trump family member bought oil stocks recently?
As was explained, the U.S. is seizing control of the strait temporarily, and other nations have supported this, so that we can make sure all of the mines are gone with the intent of opening it to international traffic. The scheme by Iran to demand toll was a new demand and any such demands are properly shut down quickly.

There is a giant part of this situation that is clearly being overlooked. China's shipments. This is a major escalation because the U.S. has stopped trying to "fix" the toll problem and has now started blocking the payers of which China sits at the helm. Blocking, boarding, ceasing and searching these vessels ,an aggressive move by the Trump Administration, will probably further the international crisis.

Claiming control over the international waters of the Straight of Hormuz was an aggressive move by Iran. Ships that are goring through the Strait of Hormuz to and from non-Iranian ports and are not involved in the Iranian scheme are free to transit the Strait of Hormuz during this temporary period.

Blockade to prevent Iran from collecting "toll fees." Oddly enough, that puts it in the same class as regular, old fashioned, blockades. Agree or disagree with it, but from the quote in the cite, that's what's going on.

What I'd like to see is the actual order. Anyone have a link?

1) Trump has boasted that he is the only President in the past 47 years to use America's military might to halt Iran's attempt to become a nuclear power in the Middle East!
Perhaps that succession of Republican and Democratic Administrations realized that Iran had access to a military option that President Trump, in his infinite wisdom, either chose to ignore or failed to realize - that a nation armed with a mere handful of military drones and'/or short range missiles was all that was necessary to effectively close the narrow Strait of Hormuz to tanker traffic!

2) The Strait of Hormuz serves as the potential "choke point" that controls the flow of approximately 20% of the world's oil supply - that translates into 20 million barrels passing through the Strait every day, transported by huge oil tankers that are not only carrying a highly combustible cargo but they are also incapable of evading drones and/or missiles!

3) President Trump may be the Commander-in-Chief of the world's most powerful military but for America and Israel to conduct a 40 day bombing campaign targeting Iran while remaining oblivious to the fact that it could be used by Iran as an excuse to close the Strait to all traffic, triggering dramatic worldwide price increases for oil and gas, represents a blunder of major proportions!

4) If nothing else, America has suffered a huge loss of prestige around the world when the President allows himself to be influenced by Israel's Netanyahu into participating in a bombing campaign that most observers conclude was completely unnecessary - an influence that Presidents who preceded him had rejected in the past!
This would in turn has subjected those nations whose oil supply is transported through the Strait of Hormuz to severe "economic pain" - due to circumstances none of their own making!
The responsibility for this impasse can be placed directly on the doorstep of President Donald J Trump - while he continuously reminding other NATO members as to America's financial contribution to the alliance, "the silence is deafening," however, when it comes to the President expressing any remorse that would result in compensating those nations currently experiencing economic hardship - a direct result of his arbitrary decision to bomb Iran!

5) Despite the fact that they were never consulted, Trump has repeatedly resorted to personal attacks directed at other NATO nations, once he realized that Iran had closed access to the Strait - he assumed that the military arm of NATO should be placed at his disposal, not for its intended purpose, but to serve to implement his disastrous American foreign policy!

6) Apparently Trump has never read the NATO CHARTER - had Iran attacked the US as was the case when terrorists based in Afghanistan conducted 9/11, then America could invoke Chapter 5 whereby an attack against one member is an attack against all!
Both the US and Israel chose the time and place to conduct their bombing campaign - Trump had also dispensed with an earlier treaty negotiated during the Obama Administration, just as with the case of NAFTA and CUSMCA, the only agreements that this President is prepared to recognize are the ones negotiated during his Administration!

7) Trump's claim that NATO troops in Afghanistan deliberately avoided being stationed on the front lines -"You know, they'll say they sent some troops to Afghanistan, or this or that. And they did – they stayed a little back, a little off the front lines."

Trump's claims concerning the need fir NATO allies in Afghanistan - "We've never needed them (NATO troops in Afghanistan). We have never really asked anything of them."

Trump's claims concerning NATO reliability: "I know we'll come to [NATO's] rescue, but I just really do question whether or not they'll come to ours."

Trump conveniently ignores the fact that the only time NATO's Chapter 5 was invoked was the commitment by member nations to send armed forces in support of American troops in Afghanistan! Canada, as an example, deployed 40000 military personnel over a 13 year period, incurred 158 combat deaths, over 2000 seriously wounded at a cost of $18 billion!

8) President Trump made the first 2 claims in January 2026 dismissing the contributions and personal sacrifices made by NATO troops in Afghanistan - fast forward 6 weeks and in the midst of his bombing campaign of Iran, Trump now has the audacity to demand that these same NATO countries send their naval ships to open the Strait of Hormuz, despite the fact that he was unwilling to position American ships in the Strait itself!

9)The citizens of these NATO countries have demonstrated that they are not opposed to supporting America, a member nation, should it be attacked - they are opposed, however, to sending troops in support of the military escapades of this President, who has portrayed their armed forces as cowards, unwilling to serve on the front lines, followed by insulting the memories of their dead and wounded!

10) If depriving Iran of joining the "NUCLEAR CLUB" was the supposed motivation behind this bombing campaign, the US and Israel have yet to locate and remove the enriched weapons grade uranium that Iran presumably possesses!
China (C), Russia (R), Iran (I) and North Korea (NK) form "CRINK," otherwise known as the "axis of upheaval" a loose, strategic alliance challenging the Western democracies including NATO, exchanging and upgrading military technology and assisting in evading sanctions!
China provides the economic backbone, Russia focuses on military technology, North Korea supplies munitions and manpower while Iran contributes intelligence, regional disruption (Hezbollah, Hamas, Houthis) and the manufacture of drones that are widely used against Ukraine!

11) Given that 3 of the 4 members of "CRINK" already possess nuclear weapons, Iran already has access to the technology and expertise that could "fast track" its nuclear program - in return, Iran could serve to extend the the influence of this alliance further into the Middle East and Eurasia!

It's interesting how often Trump disparages the courage of military personnel or calls them losers. Probably can't mentally deal with the fact that those troops showed real bravery while he chickened out of the draft by having daddies doctor friend diagnose him with fake bone spurs, and now it's living rent-free in his head.

Not at all. This temporary blockade does two things. First, it allows the U.S. to secure the area and prevent the Iranian scheme to allow allies through but make others pay a toll. Second, because of their bad faith in negotiating, it cuts Iran off from providing oil to all countries. That is, their source of income is cut off.

Trump has been quite supportive of the military and their sacrifices. You won't find a video of him looking at his watch during a military ceremony. We don't know what specific countries Trump was thinking of, he later, on a post on Truth Social on Jan. 24, 2026 said:
  • "The British and our NATO allies were brave beyond belief in Afghanistan. Many made the ultimate sacrifice and we will always remember their heroism."

Wouldn't visit war graves in France because it was raining

Claimed NATO troops “stayed a little back” from the front lines in Afghanistan.

Stated that John McCain wasn't a war hero because he was captured

Claimed that the mother of a dead US soldier who was Muslim "Maybe she wasn't allowed to have anything to say"

Said the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which honors civilians, (and just happens to be awarded by him) “is actually much better” than the Medal of Honor, because service members who receive the nation’s highest military decoration are often wounded or dead.

The list goes on and on.

But at least he didn't look at his watch during a military ceremony (that we know of). Consider my PEARLS CLUTCHED!!!!

I’m still waiting for proof of life of the airmen rescued earlier in the campaign. But, please continue.
