Old wisdom says that the soul is not from genes, one is also self-conscious all one's life. If the soul was from genes, how could one become self-conscious, genes create the soul then and then one becomes self-conscious later? In a way it makes modern medicine a bit outdated too, because if one is healthy in the soul, the body follows too. DNA is there because the cells should be able to copy themselves without it happening via a large center, it would be impossible for an organ like the brain to keep up with everything. Animals are also self-conscious, I assume that plants and trees are also since they feel their surroundings, otherwise it is just that they only feel their surroundings, but perhaps think little. The goal of life is to have fun and the joy it gives to have an offspring, that is why I believe everything has a soul, even bacteria, it is not like something lives on impulses only, without joy life would just have offspring and die without further meaning.
I have also found that you can calculate how intelligent life is by how long it lives, for example a human can live to be 120 years old, while a tree can live to be 3000 years old, i.e. the tree is 10 times less intelligent than a human, it has to do with combustion, a turtle can live to be 300 years old because it has a slightly lower metabolism than a human, and is slightly less intelligent, say three times less intelligent then, what do you mean?
